If you're wondering what kind of tour--well, hang on to your hats--we're off! We have heard so much about that senior class of 1954 that we're going to take a look and see how they are making out twenty years later. First stop--Carnegie Hall. Here we find Mr. Gary Naylor giving a sousaphone concert with Miss Margie Grimes (yes, it’s still Miss) accompanying him on the piano. We knew that all those hard years of practicing at good old CPS would pay off for Marge and Gary. We also understand that Marge is making quite a name for herself as a top-notch organist. We're off again soaring into blue space! There's Philadelphia below. In this town we find Carol Garrison, a busy dental hygienist. She's sticking to her old high school ambition. Now, down the coast to St. Augustine, Florida, where we see Jim Hampton employed as top chemist on a secret formula for the new Z-bomb. Over in Tennessee, Marian Shelhorn Palmer is working as a public health nurse. Nursing, however, is not all that occupies her time. We can't stop too long at any one place so let’s hurry on up to Chicago, where Jack Wagner is happy with his job as diesel engineer. He has a run from Chicago to Detroit, but he has to make it only once a week. I understand there are a lot of dolls in big town --right, Jack? Back in the old home state of Nebraska, we see none other than Albert Gusner teaching a rural school near Valentine. Get this, girls, he isn't married yet! We find Clifford Logan hasn't moved away from our dear old town of Chadron--but then, why should he? He's busy making big money as a doctor. Did that play back in his high school days influence him in any way? Down in the thriving city of Dunlap we find that Charles Mann owns his own garage and is doing good business. But wait a minute! Who is that down there with him? Why it’s Mary Meng, but it looks as if she's changed her last name. I thought she was planning to be a stewardess. Something (or someone) must have changed her mind. Busily working on his wheat farm in South Dakota, we find Don Egly. Just as we figured, there's Sally Meng, too--or is it Meng? From South Dakota we go on to Montana where Darrell Larsen is owner of a huge cattle ranch. What’s this we hear--Darrell isn't getting along too well with his next door neighbor? Why, it's Dean Buchanan! It seems that Darrell's cattle and Dean's sheep just don't mix. In Utah we find Verna Schnetzky working as a private secretary for a huge law firm. Rumor has it she's also working on the president. There's Charles Rook over in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Charlie, the crazy inventor, is still trying to figure out a way to motorize his desk so he won’t have to carry any books to his college classes. On down in Arizona, we stop at a beautiful horse ranch. Luella Straub is the owner of this lovely spread. Well, we always knew that Lu liked horses. In her senior year, Gloria's attention turned to flying. We find her now out in California happily married. Hang on! We’re off to Hawaii! Here’s where Barbara Snodgrass has a job as stewardess on a famous airline. I understand, though, that she became so interested in the hula dance that now she's teaching it to all who are interested (and some who aren't). Last stop--Haiti! For the last nineteen years Deloris Roberts Millar has been following her famous husband. General Ward Millar, all over the world; but at last they've settled down with the natives of Haiti. Well, we must way farewell to the class of '54 now and get back to our respective businesses. It was nice meeting them all again. The team was composed of boys from all classes, but the majority were underclassmen. As a result we were inexperienced in many of our positions. The forward wall was our worst example. But considering our tough schedule, the team as a whole didn't do so badly. One of our better and first games was with Lusk, Wyo., but we came out on the short end 27 to 13. The passing attack, which was rated as one of the best in Western Nebraska was at its best in this game. The team's worst performances were with Hemingford and Rushville. The Bobcats ran wild against us, but our running attack went rather well against the Longhorns. The Prep eleven then nipped Hay Springs on the following Friday 14 to 7. Our aerial attack was impossible to use because of a wind storm. On our Homecoming another defeat was put in our laps. Crawford spoiled the day with a score of 33 to 13. St. Patrick of Sidney then fell to Prep in a seesaw battle all the way. We came back in the last quarter and sprung an off-tackle play that went through the Irish for the winning score. The next week the Junior Eagles scalped the Pine Ridge Indians 20 to 18. The referees earned their money that night, stepping off penalties. The final game was with the Alliance Reserves. Prep was ahead all the way except for the last few minutes when Prep, with their backs against the wall, punted. The ball went nowhere but straight up. The Alliance crew then easily put it over on a Quarterback sneak. When the gun went off ending the game and the season the score was 12 to 7. We had a new coach this year, Mr. Max Wilkens. He should be given a medal of some sort for trying to make a football team out of some 20 boys; over half of these were inexperienced. If it were possible that the Sport Section of the Annual could be dedicated I'm sure it would be to him. Here's hoping that he and the team have better luck next year. Our trophy case crowded already had to make room for a Northwest Conference Tournament Trophy, District Championship, and the Conference Title Trophy. We suffered only two defeats this year. Ctoe to Class B Crawford and the other to the State Class ”C” Champions Syracuse. The Prepsters went almost all the way up the ladder but were beaten on the last rung in the State Tournament by Syracuse. Probably the toughest of our opponents this year was Gordon: the Broncs went to the State Tournament in Class B but were beaten in the first round. We played Gordon three times and each game was a thriller all the way. Another fine ball team was St. Agnes of Alliance. The Prep’s biggest morale builder was the victory over Lusk, Wyo- ming. The westerners were rated triple A in Wyoming but the Junior Eagles beat them eight points. Prep handed Hay Springs their biggest defeat of the season by a difference of sixty-seven points. At Lincoln, Prep won its first game with Newman Grove, but met defeat the next day when they met Syracuse. Here are the scores of the fifty-four season.
