Class Prophecy The class of '53 is holding its class reunion May 28, 1963, in the Chadron Memorial Hall which has just been completed in time for the reunion. We are greeted by the Class Sponsor, Mr. Mickelson. The Mickelsons now have the little sister Johnnie has been wanting. Johnnie is a hero of the Junior High Basketball Championship team. He's copying the example of his High School hero, Jim Palmer. Jim Forbes is acting as master of ceremonies. He who has long aspired to be President of the Chadron State Teachers College has finally gained a position as janitor of the Women's Dormitory. He is now introducing the speaker of the day, the first Woman President of the United States, Miss Dorothy Clements. Yes, men, it's still Miss. By the way, Pete Wood who designed the scenery for this evening is completing a blue print for the new White House. Phil Williams who is taking pictures this evening owns his own studio. His hobby is taking pictures of shape- ly young ladies of which Miss Belva.Ashwedge is his favorite model. Miss Ashwedge has been a Powers Model for the past eight years. She arrived in a stunning Paris creation in addition to a fabulous fortune of King Tut jewelry. Belva's dress was designed by the up and coming dress designer Nanc'ee, alias Nancy Kuska. Nancy's Business Manager, Otis Hill, is putting his Speech training to work selling her masterpieces, They plan to combine their businesses soon. The entertainment for this evening includes Shakey-Shook , who is the wife of our Class pauper Franklin Clark. Frank has just returned as a war correspondent and he picked up his own entertainment from the Hawaiian Islands. Veterinarian, Bob Roberts is vainly trying to put the Class wolf, Duane McMeekin's eye balls back in their sockets after the shakey entrance of Shakey-Shook. Duane seems to be down on his luck, but he's still up to his old tricks. He ran out of Oldsmobiles five years ago and can't even seem to get a job as a Model A salesman now. The two busiest families in the past ten years are the Palmers and the Frame-DeVols. Jim Palmer has realized his ambition and is coaching the fighting Buffalos of Chappell. (The Traitor.) On the side rooting for their dad are eleven little red-headed boys. When they come of age Jim can have his football team in the family. Gayle Frame is living in Crookston. She is living dangerously as a taxi driver while her mother-in-law babysits with Gayle's quintuplets. A black, curly-headed basketball team is in the making, too, I see. Melba Paine Turpin ranks next on this list. She is fortunate in having seven little girls with green hair. It's a new fad.) She has just completed a smash frit on Broadway in which she was the star. Ted co-starred with seven co-co-stars under the co-star. It seems work is the past time of most of the class. Joy Deen Fox is working on the Bank President. She's working for a change, but we're not sure which kind. Harold Kindig has almost realized his ambition as a book illustrator. He draws the pictures to persuade the dogs to eat dog food. Bill Hawk has just written a best-seller entitled How To Build Your Self-Confidence. We always knew he had it in him, self-confidence that is. Miss Spiech's class must have helped Bill for he and Mable seem to have settled their problems with a ring. Larry Redfem furnished the flowers for this happy occasion from his Red Ball Greenhouse. He also furnishes flowers for Dale Webster, Digger O'Dell the friendly undertaker of Oelrich. Dale is here looking for prospective customers. Bob Buchanan is raising bulls for bull fighting. His main buyer is matador, Tom Hoffmann. Mrs. Taylor's exercises must have limbered him up considerably. Bill Snyder is the newly appointed ambassador to Mars. He rushed to Earth in his new Rocket at special command of the President. Ervin Horton, the Class Promoter is circulating among the crowd trying to enlarge his Bookie business and I see there are several suckers among the class. The Benediction was given by Reverend Jerome Griffith, pastor of St. Peter's Parish, in C-L-I-N-T, Clint, Texas. This closes the Reunion of the Class of 1953. We started out being defeated by Lusk, and ended being defeated by Rushville, the Conference Champs. Prep players were in- spired by the fact that it was the last game and they wanted to win a hard one for Archie. This was by far our best game and for a while it looked as though we might upset the Longhorns. But we couldn't keep the pace. We had a happy Homecoming made possible by defeating Hay Springs nineteen to seven. On September 18, the Jr. Eagles got a big surprise when they were defeated by the Hemingford Bobcats. We ended the season with two wins and five losses. Back row: Mike Turpin, Jimmy Heidebrecht, Billy Kohler, Jim Wood, Darrel Wohlers, Dick Mingus, Dale Kilber, and Glen Gray. The opening basketball game of the season was a good one since we beat Gordon sixty to forty-two. Prep played much of the game with two regulars on the bench, but it didn't slow down the Barn-burners. Again in basketball it was the Hemingford Bobcats who surprised Prep. The Bobcats led most of the game but we pulled it out of the bag and won by a margin of eight points, thirty-nine to forty-one. We won the Northwest Tournament without too much trouble. One of the thrillers of the season came when Prep traveled to Lusk. The Lusk game was a loose one all the way but Prep nipped the sharp- shooting Lusk team by one point, fifty-seven to fifty-six. Probably the most exciting game of the season came when we traveled to Gordon. At the end of the final period it was Prep thirty-seven, Gordon thirty-seven. Things looked doubtful when a Gordon player had two free throws, but he missed them both. At the end of the first over-time the score was forty-one to forty-one. In the last few seconds of the game guard Jim Palmer cut loose with beautiful long set shot, that made the net pop and the tempers of a few Gordon fans. We won the Conference but not without a loss. It seems Hay Springs always pulls one out of the bag. They defeated the highly rated Eagles by a good 13 points. We entered the District Tournament with high hopes of another State Championship, but our hopes were cut short by the fast breaking Lyman crew. This ended our season with twenty wins and two losses. Preps defense clicks. Hampton tallies for two. Prep fights for the rebound, Williams on a fast break. Zrack Squad Back row: Jim Whetstine, Vernon Cullers, Kenneth Churchill, Eddie Kuska, David Roberts, Gary Clements, Mr. Conn, Coach. Second row: Charles Rook, Frank Clark, Dale Webster, Jim Palmer, Bill Hawk and Jim Hampton. TRACK SQUAD STATISTICS Chadron Prep had few on its track squad this year. There were twelve men out and six lettered. In the invitational track meet everyone participated but there were only two point getters, Jim Palmer tied for second and third in the pole vault and fourth in the broad jump, while Bill Hawk placed second in the mile run for a total of 8 1 2 points. In the Hot Springs invitational Jim Palmer tied for second in the pole vault and Ed Kuska got a fourth in the High Hurdle. Again these were only two point winners in the District Meet. Bill Hawk earned a fifth place in the mile while Ed Kuska got fourth in the High Hurdles. The Conference meet was postponed until after the district meet because of bad weather. Ed Kuska got second in the high hurdles and fifth in the low hurdles. Palmer got fourth in the discus, tied for third in the high jump and tied for second and third in the pole vault for the major part of the points as far as individuals are concerned. The 880 relay team placed for the first time all season; although it was only a fifth.
