Prep took part in the Chadron Invitational, a triangular with Gordon and Crawford, the Southern Hills meet at Hot Springs, the Conference meet at Chadron, and the District meet at Bayard. In the Conference meet Lytle won 1st in the high hurdles while Palmer and Williams placed third and fourth in the pole vault. In the District Lytle and Palmer qualified to go to the State Meet. Larry Lytle was the only Prep first place winner. He won first in the high hurdles in each of the four meets he entered. X p REP 7 OH 3 JUNIOR HI. The Chadron Prep 1951 football season was the poorest of the past few years. Junior Eagles won one, tied one, and lost six. The record was the worst made since Coach Archie Conn has been coaching at Prep. In the first game of the season the green Prepsters, with only a few days of practice, fell to a big, hard fighting Lusk team 14 to 0. Then Prep over-powered the smaller Hemingford team 20 to 0. Downfall followed. Prep lost first to a hard fighting Hay Springs team 7 to 0. In the first home game of the season Prep fell to Alliance Reserves 13 to 14. The Junior Eagles next lost 52 to 0 to Rushville the highest scoring high school team in Nebraska. Then came the homecoming game with Crawford, which Prep lost 20 to 6. It is said that history repeats itself, and it did in the St. Pat's game; the Ju- nior Eagles tied them 13 to 13 for the second year in a row. Pine Ridge defeated Prep in the last game of the season 21 to 30. Jim Neeland and Jim Palmer were Prep's leading scoring threats. Charles Muma, Prep's left end, was chosen for All-Conference end. Frank Clark, guard, made the All-Conference second team. For the second time in Prep's history, the Junior Eagles were the State Class C Champions. Not only were they State C Champs; but Prep had an all-victonous season, winning 26 games in a row to be the only undefeated high school team in Nebraska in 1951-1952. Preps victory stride started when they easily defeated St. Agnes 59-29. Next, the Junior Eagles traveled to Hemingford and bumped them 56-16. In the last game before Christmas vacation, Prep beat their last year's rival, Crawford, 64-36. Following Christmas vacation Prep won first place in the Northwest Nebraska Conference Tourna- ment by swamping their first three opponents as follows: Assumption Academy 54-24, St. Agnes 67-49, and Rushville 55-30. Led by Larry Lytle, Prep decisioned Chadron High 46-38. Lytle was high scoring man of the tournament with 98 points. His 98 points also set a new record. Charles Muma was second high point man with 59 points. Following the tournament Prep defeated supposedly tough Valentine 77-38. Muma hit 30 points which was the most points scored by any Prep man in a single game during the season. Harrison, after giving the Junior Eagles a rough first half, fell 51-33. In the next game Prep had to work hard to de- feat the big Gordon team 55-47. Rushville scared Prep worse than any other team did all season. The Junior Eagles had a cold night and lost two of the starting five on fouls. The Longhorns forced Prep into an overtime before Prep out- smarted them 60-57. In the first game in the new city auditorium. Prep pushed past Hemingford 45-20. In the games which followed St. Agnes was smashed 71-42 and Hay Springs fell to Prep 62-39. At this time center Charlie Muma sprained his ankle and missed the Lusk, Wyoming game, one of the hardest games of the season. Freshman Eddie Kuska filled Charlie's spot. Pushed on by aroused morale, the Prepsters defeated the big, strong A team from Wyoming 49-47. Muma was back for the Crawford game, which the Junior Eagles won 77-41. In one of the closer games of the season, Prep squeezed by Rushville 39-35. Muma injured his other leg in this game. Again Eddie Kuska filled disabled Muma's spot. By an even scoring punch Prep bumped Gordon, the team which was posted to wreck Prep's Conference Championship hopes. The score was 59-45. In the last conference game of the season Prep breezed by Hay Springs 70-38. In the District Tournament at Hay Springs, Prep defeated Lyman, Hemingford, and Rushville by scores of 46-34, 54-27, and 72-42 respectively. Led by Larry Lytle, district tournament high scorer with 51 points. Prep took the essential steps toward the State Tournament. At the playoff held at Bayard, the nervous Prepsters probably played their poorest game of the season. Even so, Prep beat St. Patricks of North Platte 41-28. In the first game of the State Tournament, Prep met a big Adams team. Working against height disadvantages, Preps Muma and Lytle cleared both boards, enabling Prep to bump Adams 46-37, In the semi-finals with West Point, a last second bucket by Larry Lytle broke a 43-43 deadlock and gave Prep a 45-43 win over the Cadets. West Point protested the game, but the tournament officials disallowed the protest. Prep's cool, methodical way of ball playing won for them a State Championship. The Junior Eagles rolled by Gibbon 35-25 for a clean sweep in the 1951-52 basketball season. The boys wish to thank Coach Archie Conn whose brilliant coaching plugged the team through both tight and easy games enabling them to earn the championship and to become the only undefeated high school basketball team in Nebraska. Class Prophecy As we are sitting about our television set in the year of 1962, let's tune into the Home Life Station to see how the Senior Class of 1952 has fared in the past ten years. The first scene on the screen is the quiet, peaceful home of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Roberts. Virginia is sitting at the piano singing a song to her youngest son while Curt is showing the oldest son a new rifle he has just purchased. Curt has been successful in the past ten years as a house painter. As the scene shifts to the downtown section of Chadron, we see the well-known citizen, Charles Woolery, get out of his pickup. He closes the door, thus exposing a large sign which reads, Masonry and Bricklaying, Ffcone 8743. Over his arm hangs a Knight Templars uniform, which he is taking to the first-rate Keep U Neat'' laundry and dry cleaning establishment of Margaret and Margorie. Return- ing to his pickup Charles waves to someone in a Chevrolet. It is the out-standing and high ranking sales- man, Charles Mums. He is taking his car for a check-up to the small Auto Repair and Filling Station owned by Wallace Goff. Wallace has just recently started the shop, but has gotten a fine start. Pre- viously he had been a heavy equipment operator, but decided to try auto mechanics for awhile. Now let us go to the once small but now large city of Merriman, where we find the largest stockyard in western Nebraska. The stockyard handles all the stock from western Nebraska, but most sales consist of Jim Neeland's registered Herefords and their generations. Jim has been fortunate in the past few years and has had many prize winners. As we take in the downtown section, we see the busy Alan Livermont walking to his newly started clinic, where he is chief surgeon. Alan has just graduated from medical college and built a small clinic. He was near the top of the class and therefore has a very good start for the future. Another well-known and successful citizen of Merriman is the head nurse at the Hospital, Carol Brown. Carol has had valuable experience in this field and has many assistant nurses under her. Now we begin a scenic tour during which we spy a very colorful and modern sheep ranch owned by the Tlustos Sisters, in Montana. It was difficult for Dorcas to decide upon a vocation since her first choice did not succeed. Being persuaded by her sister she has finally become a profitable sheep rancher, and she enjoys it. Not far away appears a small but quaint farm house which has a very peaceful and quiet appearance. We learn that Barbara and her husband are enjoying a very happy and lasting life there. Barbara has many friends and is a close neighbor of Dorcas. As we journey on we find ourselves looking at an Orphangage where everyone is happy, including the successful owner, Janette Hanks. Janette enjoys this work very much and plans to continue on in the years to come. For a change of people and scenery let us go to South America, where we find John Kent. John has just finished his Missionary study. His hard work has been rewarded with a high rating. There is a small church he has just begun to build. He has won many friends in this area and the future looks very promis- ing. He hopes to win many to Christ. As we are returning to New York, let us listen to the very relaxing and soothing voice of Dean Bartels, who has recently been singing in New York and has many steady listeners. Dean has made rapid progress and hopes to appear in opera. While we are in New York, we view some of the very large stores and buildings. When we enter one building the first thing we notice is the very touching and artistic interior decorations. Upon inquiring, we find that Rachelles' outstanding skill in decorating has made a big hit on Broadway. On out way home we make a tour through South Dakota and the Black Hills. Here we find the great basketball team of Larry Lytle and football team of Bob Allgood. Lariy and Bob have both had success- ful seasons and have recived top honors throughout South Dakota. Our time is running out; the day is drawing to a close. We will return to the present with the hope that our futures will be as prosperous and successful as we have viewed them on our television toilr. I, Robert Allgood, will my typing ability and paper to Bob Buchanan. I, Dean Bartels, will my booming voice to Joy Deen Fox. I, Carol Brown will my ability to drive a car without wrecking it to Helen Lowe. I, Rachelle Fabre, will my French charm to Nancy Kuska. I, Wallace Goff, will my brawny muscles to Jack Wagner so he will be able to fight off the girls during his Junior and Senior years, and my intellectual ability to Bill Hawk in order to keep the family re- lation names on the plaque in the study hall. I, Barbara Griffith, will all of my college boys to Belva Aschwege. I, Janette Hanks, will my ability to laugh and giggle to Gayle Frame. 1, John Kent, will my love for the word of God to Gary Naylor. I, Alan Livermont, will a shovel to Mr. Millar so it will be easier for him to tell about his hair-raising experiences. I, Larry Lytle, will my careful driving to Clifford Logan and my ability to play basketball to Tom Hoffman. I, Charles Muma, will my devilishness to Duane McMeekin to keep Millar running and to Phil Williams all the hats he can wear in school. I, Jim Neeland, will my candy bars during 10:15 to Franklin Clark and my ability to woo girls to Jerry Griffith. I, Virginia Roberts, will my ability to get married before graduating to Deloris Roberts. I, Curtis Roberts, will my ability to go steady to Edgar Wood. I, Margret Rose, will all of my dates to Mary Meng. I, Margorie Rose, will my ability to go steady with the same boy for four years to Sally Meng. I, Dorcas Tlustos, will to Jim Forbes all the Gooseberry pie he can eat. I, Charles Woolery, will my ability to continue through school without studying to Albert Gusner. We, Bob Allgood, Larry Lytle, and Alan Livermont, will 1 4 lb. of Limburger cheese to the three big cheeses, Jim Hampton, Bruce Bartlett, and Charles Rook, of the Sophomore class.
