In the now large town of Whitney, Nebraska we find Bob Armstrong head coach of the Whitney Rockets, last year's Class A champs. Not far down the road we find Carma Hawk manager of the Whitney airbase. She wishes she could fly more but due to her shortness she finds it difficult to reach the controls as in her car back in '51. In Chadron, which has also grown, we see Loralyn Wilson and Delores Bogner owners of a snazzy night club. Delores gives free dancing le sons, while Loralyn takes care of the money and bookwork. Back in the kitchen we find Dick Derrick, as second cook. He had lots of practice back in seven-thirty A.M. Social Living Class and also in the Army. Also making his home in Chadron is J ck Bickford, now chief fireman on the Northwestern Railroad. Margery Doe 11, or should we say Mrs. Logan, got an early start in life, marrying before graduating from school. Margery and family are living in Chadron. Margery quit working at the Frock Shop last year. The two cowboys of the class are Waymann Wild and Les Churchill. Waymann is married and head man at the angora goat ranch at Rocky Fort, Montana. Les found and married a rich rancher's daughter. With their money they purchased land and have built up a beautiful cattle ranch, one of the finest in the sandhills. Dick Reed, who has sold many paintings to the Art Museum of Chicago, has married and settled down in the Ozark Hills to get an inspiration for his future masterpiece. Thelma Pettegrew and her sister are singing on the radio station, XELO, Clint, Texas. Thelma's yodeling hrs made them widely known. They are called the Sunshine Sisters, so tune to XELO, Clint, Texas. Last but not least, by all means, we find Dr. Robert Scott Sllwood, a chemist at the atomic research plant at Oak Ridge Tennessee. He has made many new discoveries for future use. ------The fuel in our rocket ship is beginning to get low, so we must turn back again to the present year. It has been a wonderful experience to see what the future years may have in store for us. Undoubtedly we have used our learnings in Prep to further the government of the United States, to neip prevent wars, and to be impartial. Yes, we wsre small in quantity but not in quality. 9 CUSS WILL I, Bob Armstrong will my ability to fight off the girls to Larry Lytle. The Preos met the Pine Ric.ge Indians at Pine Ridge for there last game of the seeson. The Junior Eagles trounced Pine Ridge 52-19 in a game which was featured by long runs and dazzling nesses. Every souad member saw olenty of ection in this contest. Bob Armstrong and Les Churchill led the Prep scoring with six touchdowns apiece. Charles Muma, Preps pass catching end and Bob Armstrong, halfback were first string choices on the All-Conference team. Dick Derrick, rugged center and fullbeck Les Churchill made the second team. The teem as well as these players are grateful to Coach Archie Conn for their teams sucess and fully realize that they could not have reached such heights without his aid. 23 o e Aito ' 3 ootb xll JplcLyZM Sob Allgood- Right Tackle Bob Armstrong- Left Halfback All-Conference, 1st Team Co-Cantain 24 Les Churchill- JVillback All-Conference, 2nd Team Co-Caotain Dick Derrick- Center All-Conference, 2nd Team 25 26 Beck How: Horton, Forbes, Livermont, Buchanan, Clerk, Woods, McMeekin, Webster, Hoffman, Neelend, Kent, Woolery. The Junior Eagles attack was built around Bob Armstrong, last years second high scorer and Charles Muma, rangy center. Les Churchill, Bob Allgood and Curt Roberts filled the other three positions. At the beginning of the second semester, Larry Lytle, transfer from Wall, South Dakota, took over first string duties and scored consistently through out the rest of the season. The Preps started their season with a win over a stubborn St. Agnes team 41-27. The Junior Eagles then went on to take two more games before Christmas vacation with a 34-32 win over Gordon, and a 46-16 victory over Heminrford. Following Christmas vacation the Preps met their stiffest competition and went down in defeat 52-47 to a strong Crawford quintet. Bob Armstrong led the Junior Eagles with an impressive 27 point scoring rage. The following week the Preps took second place in the Northwest Nebraska Conference Tourney. The Preps breezed past its first three opponents by scores of 52-21 over St. Agnes, 46-30 over Hemingford, and 43-25 over a large Gordon team. Bob Armstrong was high point man for the tourney and Charles Muma was a close third. Following the tournament the Preps traveled to Harrison and won very easily 67-43. Bob Armstrong and Charles Muma led the attack with 27 and 17 points respectively. The following night the Junior Eagles went down in defeat to a big, strong Lusk, Wyoming team by a 34-37 score. The follovdng week the Preps played their worst game of the year and lost to Gordon 36-38 in an overtime. However the Preps got back on the winning side by defeating a determined Rushville team 41-39. Bob Allgood took all honors by scoring 16 points and making the winning basket. The Junior Eagles had little trouble in their next three contests. They beat Hemingford 63-34, Hay Springs 63-31, and St. Agnes 62-22. Then the Preps again met Crawford and the third time proved to be the charm as Crawford suffered its first conference defeat at the hands of the Preps 49-47. The Junior Eagles then vent on to finish their regular season with three impressive wins. They breezed by Rushville 65-47 with Bob Armstrong playing his best game of the year, scoring 31 points. Next they traveled to Hay Springs and came out on top 73-49 with Charles Muma getting 25 points. The following night they met a supposedly strong Martin, South Dakota team but hrd little competition and won 70-42. The Preps then moved into the District Tourney at Hay Springs and breezed through the Tourney by beating Morrill in the opener 65-35, Rushville 59-39 in the semi-finals, and Hay Springs 71-40 in the finasl. Bob Armstrong collected 75 points in the three games while Larry Lytle got 41. The Preps next met Chappell in the District playoff for the third straight year. The Preps played good ball all the way through the garas, but lost to a well balanced Chappell squad 57-55 in two overtimes. The loss of Charles Muma early in the third quarter, by fouls, hurt the Preps attack. Chappell went on to take second place in the State Tourney. This ended the Junior Eagles Basketball season for 1950-51. The boys never quit or gave up for a moment in games, practice, training, or sports- manship. 28 LES CHURCHILL Guard-----Senior Good floor man Good Defensive nan Aggressive BOB ARMSTRONG CO-CAPTAIN Guard-----Senior All-City, 1st team All-State—Class C (Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal) Conference high scorer T-am hi °rh scorer 17 ooints — 23 games CHARLES MTJHA Center ------ Junior Tio-in artist All-City, 1st teem 2nd high scorer in Conference Teem 2nd hia-h scorer ooints — 23 games LARRY LYTLE Forward ------ Junior Good Shot Excellent Defensive man All-City, 2nd team 139 ooints — 13 games BOB ALLGOOD CO-CAPTAIN Forward ----- Junior Outstanding rebo'inder All-City, 2nd team 1H9 ooints — 23 games 29 30 31 b. At the District meet at Bayard Pren managed to place three boys.
