They are Mr. Keith Thomas and Mr. Dick Myers, who replaced outgoing mem- bers Mr. Boyd Roberts and Mr. Jerry Baker. The 1979 Chad- ron School Board elected Mrs. Gwen Reid as president and Mr. L. J. Fitzgibbon as vice president. The School Board had as one of it’s many duties the job of finding the replacement of the Superintendent Of Schools of Chadron City Schools. It was not an easy job and one that had to be delt with in the proper manner. It is through the constant effort of the School Board that the Chadron City Schools run in the efficient way that they do year after year. School Board Members. L. J. Fitzgibbon, Boyd Roberts, Doris Harrington, Gwen Reid, and Jerry Baker. His duties kept him busy throughout the year, but he also took much of his valuable time to keep in touch with the activities of the school. It was not an unusual sight to see him in the commons or hallways, visiting with students and faculty. Good luck to Mr. Jones in his new office! Hank Reitz is a new face at Chadron High, succeeding Wayne Jones as Activities Director and Assistant Principal. His duties included scheduling all activities, games, dances, assisting in disciplining students, and acting as Athletic Direc- tor. Mr. Reitz also took an avid interest in the well-being of the students, and was often seen visiting with the young people in school. A satirical melodrama which played two nights, the story dealt with a heroine, Bambi Phingerdoo, the niece of the owner of the bank; a bad guy turned hero when he falls in love with Bambi, Ralph “Rawhide” Rawlins: and a villain, Amos Crutchwaffle. The characteristic melodrama mood was accented and varied by the addition of various other hilari- ous characters. She had taken for- mal English in Sweden but found what we speak in Chadron quite different. Her impressions of the United States centered on such things as the number of cars and their constant use, the low cost of jeans, and all the activities that are a part of the school in this country. She felt that school was more fun here but was not as hard as it was in Sweden. Annika became a real westerner while in Chadron and returned to Sweden with a real buckskin dress. At the same time Annika was in school here two Chadron High students were in foreign countries. Brenda Chaney and Michel Brown were the Chadron High representatives in Boll- nas, Sweden and lisahni, Finland respectively. We know that they represented the United States as well as Annika repre- sented Sweden. 53 BOY’S BASKETBALL The varsity cagers from Chadron High had an eventful season, with games both home and away being tension-filled and thril- ling. The boys worked hard during the seventeen games they played, and put forth much effort at games and practice as well. The season ended at tour wins and thirteen losses. Although the team will lose four excellent athletes this year as they graduate, great promise is shown in many of the younger players who will be stepping into the shoes of seniors Kyle Wigington. Evidenc- ing the hard work of the girls was that they took the team to first place in the Rangeland Conference and second at Western Confer- ence. The girls also played a fine game at the District competition. Each girl played and scored throughout the season, and the top five scorers were as follows: Tammy Schenck, 191; Deb Carlson, 185; Jody Rish, 130: Lori Schenck, 70: Shari Fisher, 34. The Re- serve team also played well, ending with a six and three record. Top scorers for Jr. Varsity were: Julie Mullaney, 32; Tammy Stah- la, 37; Brenda Hencey, 15; Linda Bauerkamper, 29; and Lisa Kall- hoff, 34. In many of their matches, these fine grapplers won by pinning their opponent rather than by decision. Brisk action was the name of the game, and their efforts paid off as live matmen were sent to the State Wrestling Tournament. Although three of them lost in their first round, veteran Bill Colgate and first year wrestler Leo Curd battled on to receive third place in each of their weight divisions. Other highlights of the season included Chadron’s win at the Gordon Invitational, placing fifth at the District Tournament and twelfth at State, and the tact that Leo did so well being a first year grappler. The only Senior, he will be leaving the team with a record of 25-3. 58 An exciting moment for Osborn as he attempts to curb his opponent.
