Text from Pages 1 - 80 of the 1954 volume:

The Cardinal of 1954 is dedicated to the students of Chadron High. It is our wish that this book will be a help in remembering the school year of 1953-1954. I cannot say, and I will not say That he is dead. He is just With a cheery smile, and a He has wandered into an Think of him still as the same, He is not dead--he is just away! mm «HP IN MEMORY OF MIKE MOSS Killed in Hunting Accident November 7, 1953 The annual staff this year has worked to put out a yearbook we hope will bring back memories in future years. This year, we again had Mrs. Thompson for our sponsor. Our little working editor was Larry Smith. Rogi Cogil helped the studio in taking the pictures. The sports editor was Roger Huryta. The two people who did the most work were Delmar Yoakum, business manager and his assistant, Norma Green. Arlene Selk did our fine art work. Although we had the usual share of troubles and delays and always had a last minute rush at deadline time, here is a book we hope you enjoy as much as we enjoyed producing it for you. Others who helped in producing this book were: Larry Wood, Willie Lemen, Lorraine Shaw, Beverly Johnson, Jeanne Harris, Mar- lene Rasmussen, Darlene Dau, Floyd Coleman, Joyce Stitt, Fauniel Walters, Dan Marshall, Betty Grant. Floyd Coleman Although the Chadron Cardinals had only a fair season as far as games won lost goes, they had a very good season in the fact that they had an all-state football player. Floyd was a class B all-state guard. He was also chosen on the Panhandle B and the Northwest all conference teams two years in a row. He was a standout defensive guard and a dependable blocker on offense. The team was composed mostly of freshmen, with exception of Coburn and Shaw. They were inexperienced as far as actual play goes, but they made up the defect in spirit and determination. Members of the B squad not shown are Denny Weaver, Skip Norman, David Rice, Dale Childerson, Eric Pokorney, Richard Lenington, and Coach Thompson who took this inexperienced bunch of boys and made them into a team that will brighten future Chadron High basketball programs. Compliments of Ross Transfer Each year a trophy is given to the outstanding football player on the team. This trophy is given by a father who wishes his name to remain anonymous. The award has been named Dad's Trophy . This year a senior, Floyd Coleman, was chosen to receive the award. Floyd was an All-Conference football player in both the Northwest Nebraska and the Panhandle B conferences. He was also chosen All-State, first team guard. Floyd gained all the respect due a good player not only from his own team-mates andcoaches but from the players and coaches of our opponents as well. Floyd was chosen by his team-mates bypopular vote. Compliments of Chadron Milling Co. August 24 Football Starts 27 28 Registration September 11 Bayard here 14 Lusk vs. B.
