Leroy Dugan, Buzz Nelson, Elgene Eaton, Bill Frazee SENIOR CLASS HISTORY September, I955, found sixty-four uncertain freshmen entering CGHS to begin a four year journey. Eleanor Berbaum was our candidate for Homecoming Queen. A member of our class, Janet Merritt, was also a Bronco cheerleader. At the first of the year the sophomore class welcomed us with a wiener roast. To start our second year at CGHS we elected Joyce Cockrum to represent our class in the Homecoming Court. Cheerleaders included Janet Merritt and Carolyn Clark. We welcomed the new class of freshmen with a wiener roast and dance. In the Homecoming parade our float It's An Age Old Stor CG Wins Again placed first. Upperclassmen at llastl We elected Joyce Cockrum to be our Homecoming Queen Candidate. Janet Merritt, Carolyn Clark, and Joyce Guy served as cheerleaders. November I7 we presented our first class play Mister Co-ed . To celebrate the Day for Lovers we held a valentine - dance. A Queen of Hearts was selected from ten candidates representing school organizations. Among the candidates were Joyce Guy and Mary Waltz. Theme for our prom held May II was A Garden of Roses . For the first time juniors and seniors were able to bring their dates to the banquet. The John Shepard Combo provided the music for the dance. For the last lap of our four year journey we elected Leroy Dugan, president, Bill Frazee, vice-president, Elgene Eaton, secretary, and Buzz Nelson, treasurer. Homecoming Queen candidates were Carolyn Clark, Joyce Cockrum, and Janet Merritt. Carolyn was named Queen at the pep meeting. The rest of the classes provided attendants for the Homecoming Court. Maxine and Her All-Male Orchestra played for the dance. In December we held a Snow-Ball featuring the John Shepard Combo. Cheerleaders from our class were Janet Merritt, Carolyn Clark, and Joyce Guy. At the Newman Christmas Dance and the Arcola Sweetheart Dance Joyce Guy and Janet Merritt represented our school. During April we presented a three act comedy entitled Six Stiches For Ego . Sherwood Resort in the Ozarks was the site of our senior trip held May I6, I7, and I8. Baccalaureate services were held May 25. Eight o'clock May 28 the Class of '58, consisting of forty-eight members, ended their four year journey at CGHS with the graduation ceremony. 5
