SENIOR HISTORY We began our high school life with 58 members and elected Gary Lonnon, Presi- dent, Sue Gill, Vice-President, Ann Morgan- thaler, Secretary, and Richard Rathje, Treas urer. Ann Morganthaler was our queen can- didate and Janice Vulgamott was elected cheerleader. The sophomores gave us a hay- ride and welcoming party which was enjoyed by all. A skating party held in the spring was well attended. Our sophomore officers were: George Sulwer, President, Richard Rathje, Vice- President, Karen Chapman, Secretary, and Joanne Shinneman, Treasurer. Early in the year, our 55 students' welcomed the reshmen with a party. Later a roller skating party was held for our own members. Again our ueen candidate was Ann Morganthaler. Richard Rathje and Don McClellan were cheerleaders. One of the highlights of the year's activities wasthe winning of first place in the homecoming float contest. As juniors, we had a very busy year. George Sulwer, President, Joanne Shinneman, Vice-President, Karen Chapman, Secretary, and Sharon Ellegood, Treasurer led us through a successful year. Judy Wafflard was our queen candidate and Ann Morganthaler our cheerleader. In November our play, If Mother Only Knew, was a hilarious comedy. Our class managed the concession stand at the football games. We were especially proud when our Junior Homecoming Float won first place. In February, we sponsored the Valentine Dance. Our class rings arrived in December and everyone was quite proud of them. We chose a Gay Nineties theme for our Prom to go along with the Cerro Gordo Centennial. In the fall of 1955, we entered C.G. H. S. for the last time. Ann Morganthaler and Janice Vulgamott were chosen as Cheerleaders and Jody Wafflard reigned as Queen over the Homecoming Activities. The Christmas Dance, bakery sale, hobo day, and our class play, Hillbilly Weddin', were among our many activities during the year. After grad- uation our Senior Class spent their last time together on a wonderful trip to the Ozarks. We hope that the classes to follow have just as many pleasant times and memories as we have had during our four years together. Jack Roby, Treasurer: Jim Morr, Vice-President, Pat Slattery, Presidentg Frank Powell, Secretary. JUNIORS The Juniors are justly proud of their class achievements. All thirty-one members are active in one or more school organizations, and many serve as officers. Nancy Baker was selected by the class as Homecoming queen candidate. Great Caesar's Ghost, the annual class play, was presented in November. The Candyland Prom, given for the Seniors in May, was the social event of the year. The Broncos started the season with two non-conference victories against Lakeview and Leroy. In the first two conference games, the Broncos were defeated by Sullivan and Atwood. Cerro Gordo defeated Bement to keep the Lion's Club Traveling Trophy which was won last year. In the Homecoming game against Monticello, the hard fought battle ended in a tie. The Broncos then traveled to Newman and were again defeated. In the final game of the 1955 season, Cerro Gordo overwhelmed Arthur, and ended a fair season with 4 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie. Sixteen boys received varsity letters: Senior Co-Captains George Sulwer and Mike Sponsler, Gary Lonnon, George Blick, Lee Blair, Dave Dickmeier, Allen Woollen, Dave Frydenger, and Jim Hinton. BASKETBALL A scrappy attack and an agressive spirit helped compensate for lack of height and experience and led Coach I-Iudson's Broncos to a 12-12 record for the 1955-56 season. The Broncos started well, winning the first five games before losing to Arcola. In tournament play they were eliminated in the first round of play in both the Okaw and the Regional tournaments.
