ATHLETICS COACH EBBERT Coach Ebberl came 'ro Cerro Gordo's grid- iron bringing wi+h him an unqueslionable scholas- lic record and +he collegiale spiril in a blaze of hol socks and plaid shirls. l-lis good nalure made an insl'an+ hi+ wilh The looys and made him lhe obiecl of friendly heckling. The coach's merry ,crinkling laugh appears in ready response lhough The kidding may Touch his sacred Ford. Big and slrong like Popeye. he gels his roughage from lhe green grass on lhe foolloall field. Tension in a game finds him in a characlerislic pose kneel- ing on lhe sod clurching a weary dark head. This is Coach Ebber+'s lirsl year of coaching, buf he has buill' up an unimpregnable lighling spiril and has produced Okaw Valley Jropnolchers.

The baTon is poised in mid-air waiTing Tor The Tallc To cease. Whiz! Down comes The baTon. A roar oT quarTer noTes and half noTes are Thrown TogeTher like Mulligan sTew. No, No! ThaT's noT The way. May l have your aTTenTion? l.isTenl lT goes lilce This: clarineTs, one-ee-and-a, Two-ee-and-a-and The resT oT you brass people are iusT The background. All righT, sTarT aT number 27-To where The Trombones come in, and, Kenny, give me a beaT on The boss drum in The TourTh measure. and l wonTo1 big cymbal crash. Brr-There goes The bell and we mill ouT To our second hour classes wiTh The oTT said buT soon Tor- goTTen, Don'T TorgeT To puT your music away. And so, liTTle Tunes are manuTacTured and merrily senT swinging Their way inTo everyday liTe.
