Biology — most popular in science dept. he composition of atoms, the laws of matter, and Einstein's theory were just some of the things that were taught in the science department. Under the direction of chairperson Thomas McNally, the science department broke through and offered to ! students the benefits of a scientific education. Among the courses that were offered to students, biology took rank as the most popular. Students in biology learned the biological makeup of plants and animals and how the world around us affects us in our actions. Another popular course on campus was chemistry. Students here gained knowledge of different chemical techniques and applications through ; the experience of participating in in-class labs. Along with chemistry and biology, many students took part in the physics program on campus, in which students studied the many aspects of the physical world around them. Among the awards given out each year, the physics award is given out to the most deserving senior. - New teacher to math dept. he math department, under the direction of chairperson Don Harper, offered to students a wide range of courses in the area of mathematics. Among the classes that were offered to students, the algebra and : geometry classes ranked as the most popular. ; Many students also took part in the math analysis classes and a few students were enrolled in calculus. This year, the math department was increased by the addition of new teacher Linda Cox teaching some algebra courses. Each year, awards are given out to seniors who have • excelled in the area of mathematics. Among them are the Bank of America Award of Math, and the various calculus awards. 1. Science Picture Not Available Business dept. teaches important skills he business department, under the direction of chairperson Don Saul, once again came through and offered to students a wide variety of courses in the field of business. Among the many courses that were offered were accounting, typing, data processing, business law, clerical skills, and the many secretarial skills. This year, the business department was also marked with the addition of new teacher Mary Boston. Each year, awards are given out in business to the most deserving seniors. Among them are the Bank of America Award for Business, the California Business-Education-Association Award, and the various typing awards. The business department succeeded in achieving its goal of giving to stgdents the best education possible in helping them prepare for challenging and rewarding careers in the business world. Former student joins social science dept. reaking through with a wide variety of courses was the Social Science Department. Cinder the direction of chairperson Gary Smuts, classes such as basic, general, college prep, and advanced placement social studies, as well as psychology, were taught. Mew additions to the department were Ms. Arfrt Joynt and Ms. Cheryl Grasso, a former Cerritos , High student. The department presented awards such as the Bank of America Award for Social Sciences, Ate Don Donkey Award and the Marvin E. Simpson Memorial Scholarship. 1.
