Foreign language dept. also teaches foreign cultures he foreign language department, under the direction of chairperson Donna Smart, again came through to offer to students the benefits of learning another language. Being one of the most popular areas of study, many students were disappointed when they couldn't take the language of their choice. Among the languages that were offered to students were Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Portuguese, ranging in different levels from I to IV. Even though the art of understanding and conversing in a language is greatly stressed, one of the major goals in the department is to stress the importance of culture to students. The department tries to install in the student the importance of learning the culture and views of a country rather than just the language it speaks. Each year, the Bank of America Award for Foreign Language is given to the most deserving senior who has shown excellence in mastering a language. The foreign language department has set down its goal to teach students the gift of a second language so people of the world can communicate a little better with each other. 1. You mean I got an A in the class' replies Laura Miyabe. 2. Mr. Chapel helping a student. 3. Lost your homework? .. .
