United we stand nited Together, a club which was very active this past year, broke through with many activities to offer CHS students. They were involved in Club Day, sold candy apples, participated in the Spirit Week Sack Race, and had a Divorce Booth at the Sadie Hawkins Dance. The club also sponsored another successful (fifth annual) Talent Show and Dance, and a fashion show. Under the guidance of advisor Ms. Pierce and President Lisa Johnson, the group held picnics and went to Magic Mountain. United Together, as always, promoted spirit throughout the year. 1. Debate added to speech team reaking through with a first, the Cerritos High Speech teams participated at various tournaments such as GSC, GCLA, Lion's Club, Cal State Fullerton. La Canada (where, with a small group, the team took a fifth place sweepstakes), Alhambra and Long Beach City College. At all of these tournaments, CHS Speech had at least one and usually five or six people in the final rounds. They did so well that they sent several people to the state championships. Lead by such outstanding and unusual officers as Dan Kumamoto, president; Karen Davalos, vice-president; Randy Oudega. treasurer; Lori Jean Lang, secretary; and Mrs. Gordon, advisor, the team participated in the Spirit Week Volleyball Tournament, Mini spirit Week Balloon Sit, the egg toss and worked on the Sadie Hawkins Dance. 1. Ichiban is 1 he Ichiban Club broke through with various events that helped promote school and club spirit. They raised money with such activities as a fortune cookie sale and a raffle, for their end of the year trip. Almost every month, the club sponsored gym nights where students had the opportunity to play basketball, volleyball and other sporting events. The club was active during Spirit Week by participating in the Volleyball Tournament, and they put on the Rubik s Cube Contest. Throughout the year, the club was lead by their advisor Ms. Yamada and president Jay Hosada. The Ichiban Club also gave scholarships to those deserving seniors, at the end of the year. 1.
