Cerritos High Achievements Class of 82 presidents: Gentry Humphrey (Frosh). Leannc Tcske (Soph). Lisa Hathaway (Junior), and Barbara Grunert (Senior erritos High's Class of 1982 won class competition four years in a row.” Although that sentence was heard numerous times throughout graduation, the class of '82 didn't get tired of hearing it. From the first days on campus to singing the Alma Mater at Graduation this class was different from any other. Their freshman year was the year of budget cuts, a new schedule, and closed campus. At this time, the students had no idea of the records they would break and the traditions they would set. As the squirrelly freshmen moved ahead in class competition, one teacher was quoted as saying It won't last. Freshmen always win class competition because they're so excited about high school. Well that excitement never ended. Throughout their sophomore year they continued to excel in spirit. As the 1979-1980 school year came and went, the class of '82 became upperclassmen. By now people began to realize that this was one class not to be forgotten. Many fund raisers such as candy, flowers, and button sales provided money for the class to put on an excellent prom for the class | of 1981. They ended the year by winning Almost Everything Went. When they were finally seniors, the changes began. They were now leaders of the school and wanted to break as many records as possible. The annual was the largest and most colorful; the Informer produced the most issues, printing bi monthly; the ASB cabinet recruited more blood donors, and sold the long awaited cheer towels; while the Drama Department produced the best Spring Musical that CHS had ever seen. The Class of 1982 was a class that would not soon be forgotten. Through the efforts of Barbara Grun-nert, the Senior class president, and the other class officers along with dedicated supervision by Mrs. Horisk, the class advisor, a time capsule was put together and is to be opened at their ten year reunion. Their motto “Today we follow, tomorrow we lead” was Finally put to the test when tomorrow came. They then became leaders. . 108 Classes CHS Achievements
