Athletes of f all the people who participated Oin athletics in high school, the athlete of the year represented the best of those athletes. The criteria -J for this honor was overall perfor- --------J mance, participation, and attitude ----------' throughout the four years in high school. The male coaching staff all got together and chose Greg Rhea as the 1982 male athlete of the year. Greg was involved with football and track for 4 years, basketball for 3 years, and wrestling for 1 year. His athletic excellence enabled him to letter in each sport he was involved with throughout his four years. Of his many athletic honors, Greg was also MVP for both football and basketball in his freshmen year. In football he was voted most inspirational and he was chosen All American High School Athlete along with all-league and all district. Not only was he a Golden Don and captain of the varsity track team for two years, but Greg was also the JV Basketball MVP in his junior year. Topping off his athletic career in high school Greg received an Athletic Life Pass along with the highest sports honor of all the Athlete of the Year Award. When asked how sports affected his life at CHS. he replied. It made my life with the administration a lot smoother and it helped me be a more discipline person.

Special standouts I 1 with the doubles team were I Shawn Hanners and his partner Erwyn Poyatos. A big congratulations to Most Improved Shawn Hanners and Most Inspirational John Vitale. I Fran Bakkers was chosen the 1982 female athlete of the year by the female coaching staff. She ac-A cumulated the most athletic par- ----------I ticipation points than any other --------1—I female athlete at CHS. This honor -----:----1 was mainly based on Fran’s athletic ability. She was involved with volleyball and softball for 4 years, and basketball for 3 years. With strong determination and ability. Fran lettered in each sport she was in throughout these four years. Among many of her honors, Fran was voted most inspirational for JV Basketball in her sophomore year along with being captain and MVP of her Varsity Volleyball team in both her junior and senior years. Fran was co-captain of the Varsity Softball team in her senior year as well. Completing her athletic career in high school. Fran was awarded with an Athletic Life Pass along with the highest sports honor of all. the female Athlete of the Year Award. When asked how sports affected her life at CHS, she replied, “I now know what I am capable of and it made me feel more confident about meeting my goals.
