J.V. GIRLS CAN DIG IT! 1. Karen Sample served the ball against Gahr. 2. The Cerritos Junior Varsity Volleyball Team. 3. The Cerritos Dons vs. the Gahr Gladiators. 4. The J.V. Volleyball Team was ready for action. 5. Wanda Brewer did her job for the team. 6. Dede Brown gets down on one knee to return the ball. The Cerritos High Junior Varsity Volleyball Team did very well under their new coach, Miss Nakata. For most of the girls it was the first year that they had played volleyball together. They all worked hard and at the end of the season their wins included a match against our cross town rivals, Gahr High School. It was expected that many of the girls will be playing on the Varsity team next year. 6 146

6 Miss Johnson, the Girls' Varsity Basketball coach, was very pleased with the team work she saw this year. Although Jackie Robinson, the team's top scorer, graduated early, the girls averaged about forty-six points a game. Karen Sample and Carol Brandt were voted All League Players. Both will be returning next year. Miss Johnson feels that everyone on the team improved and looks forward to coaching the girls again next year. 1. Karen Sample reaches for the pass. 2. That’s the Way The Ball Bounces The 1980-81 year of J.V. Girls' Basketball team had a new coach, Miss Jackson. The girls did fairly well considering they had many things working against them. Overall, the team was relatively young and the loss of their two top players didn't make things easier. They managed however, to finish fifth at the end of the season. Next year, most of the girls will be returning. With a year of experience behind them, the girls are expected to do rather well. 1. Wendy Thomas jumps up to get the game started. 2. The 1980-'81 J.V.
