The Frosh-Soph track team had a league record of 2-5, finishing 6th in league. Although they didn’t do too well, they had many excellent runners that broke various records. Ken Kilmurray broke the pole vault record, Robert Diaz broke records in the 8:80, mile and 2 mile, and James Shelton in the high jump. Robert Diaz was also chosen MVP and important assets to the team were Keith Levi and Ken Kilmurray. TRACK’S WHERE IT’S AT 1. Don runner hurdles with grace. 2. “They Did Well,... But I’m Not Satisfied” In 1980 the Freshmen and Sophomore X-Country teams finished with a 5-4 record. They finished third overall. Leading the teams were Wilfred Rosario and Richard Pinarija. Also, the powerful running of the freshmen kept them in the pace of the leaders. Mr. Smuts, their advisor, noted that the runners showed great enthusiasm and a strong will for competition. He summed up their season by saying, they did well, but I’m not satisfied. We should have been league champs. Next year should satisfy Mr. Smuts, for all of the runners will advance in their divisions, and all are expected to return. 1.
