VARSITY SAVED THEIR BEST FOR LAST The Varsity Soccer team didn’t have a winning season but the guys still kept high hopes and worked hard. It all payed off with a tie against Paramount, then it got much better. The team played the most terrific game of the season against our cross town rivals Gahr. The Dons who won a close game of 4-3 and putting the Gladiators out of C.I.F. playoffs. Their last game, the Varsity squished in one more win to finish up their season. The all league selections were Tony Schrodi for defense and Enrique Andrade on offense. 1. Varsity Soccer Team. 2. Javier Andrade takes a skip, hop. and a jump to the goal. 3. Tony Shrodi skims by and intercepts the ball. 4. Cladio Balboa keeps his eyes on the ball. 5. Richard Pinarzi gains yardage for Cerritos goal. 6. “They Did Well,... But I’m Not Satisfied” In 1980 the Freshmen and Sophomore X-Country teams finished with a 5-4 record. They finished third overall. Leading the teams were Wilfred Rosario and Richard Pinarija. Also, the powerful running of the freshmen kept them in the pace of the leaders. Mr. Smuts, their advisor, noted that the runners showed great enthusiasm and a strong will for competition. He summed up their season by saying, they did well, but I’m not satisfied. We should have been league champs. Next year should satisfy Mr. Smuts, for all of the runners will advance in their divisions, and all are expected to return. 1.
