The first annual Viking Bowl turned out to be a huge success. It was the biggest six-man bowl in the state and certainly the most exciting. In the first tilt Diller out distanced Meadow Grove 33-26 while in the nitecap Ceresco romped over Filley to the tune of 42-24. Filley started the scoring in the second quarter with a 58 yard run by Siefkes. The extra point was no good and Filley went ahead 6-0, Cords then got started and returned the kick Z3 yards on a nice reverse play. From there Cords and Burklund pushed the ball down to the 23 yard 1ine where two runs by Cords resulted in Ceresco's first score, The kick for extra point was good and Ceresco took over the lead. With one minute left in the first half a Swartz to Mostrorn pass was placed on the Filley 12 yard line because of pass interference. From there Cords again scored, the extra point was good and Ceresco led 16-14 at halftime. As the second half started Ceresco broke the game wide open by scoring four touchdowns and went on to their eleventh straight victory and an undefeated season. Ceresco completed this season by winning the Saunders County Conference for the second consecutive year and climaxed it by winning the Viking Bowl. In accomplishing this feat, Ceresco by winning eleven games was the winningest team in the state and also scored the most points, 458, Fourteen of the lettermen on this star-studded team were seniors, leaving a building program for our coach next year. One of these, Dave Swartz, was named to the A11 State first team while Marv Cords and Paul Pearson were named to the second team. Along with these Dan Ostransky and Dayle Burklund received A11 Conference recognition. NDERGRADS -Z Senior Class Histor As we step into a time machine and go back to the year 1952, we see thirty-four scared little Freshmen entering the doors of C.I-l.S.. Only six of these, Helen Richards, Dayle Burklund. Gerald Nelson, Jon Mostrom, Larry Swanson, and Lumir Caha, had spent all their grade school days together. Others joining them through the years were Mary Otto, Karlynn Bausch, Marian Beulke, Willis Henrichson, Leland Larson, Dave Swartz, Phillip and Lawrence Whitney. Those Freshmen coming from outlying districts were Marvin Cords, Donna Peterson, Lee Gustafson, Darlene Quick, Marvin Manske, Janice Samuelson, Jack Johnson, Donna Lowell, Paul Pearson, Germaine Olson, Ray Otto. Harriette Ball, Larry Ziegenbein, Mary Vanicek, Leonard Slemin, Harriet Palmer, Russel Swanson, Marie Sutliff, Dwain Anderson and Daniel Ostransky. Meeting our new classmates, elect- ing class officers, organizing our classes, Freshman initiation and other social events filled our first few weeks with lots of excitement. Our class sponsor was Mrs. Isaacson. As our time machine moves on, we see only 33 Sophomores returning in 1953. Marie Sutliff left C.H.S. to go to Lincoln. We again see them organizing, this time under the guiding hand of Mrs. Isaacson. Many social and athletic events seem to be keeping the Sophomores very busy. On we go to the following year of 1954. Three more classmates, Karlynn Bausch, Mary Otto and Harriet Palmer, are not with us this year. This busy year the Juniors will have Mrs. Hunter as their sponsor. Oh, we're just in time to see the Junior Class Play, Beauty and the Beef. This was one of the most amusing and successful plays ever presented at C.H.S, Goodness, what's all the excitement and glitter of lights!! Oh, we see, the Seniors have just received their class rings. Weeks and weeks of careful planning and preparation go into the beautiful Junior -Senior Banquet, Your Show of Shows. Soon after, our busy Junior year is brought to a close. Our time machine sails, After three months of summer vacation we see twenty-nine students once again climb the stairs of Ole C.H.S. There is a note of sadness, as they realize this is their last year, One more classmate, Mary Vanicek, has left us to go to attend another school. Many exciting activities take place this year. For instance, the Senior Class Play, Don't Take My Penny and attending Career Day at Wesleyan College. The Senior-sponsored Pancake Feed held at the Legion Hall was not only lots of fun but also very successful. Athletic eventshtook a large share of the Seniors' time during the fall and winter months. As we go to press we are looking forward to the approaching Sneak Day, Junior -Senior Banquet and graduation. As the time machine sails away for the last time, we look back at the fun-packed High School Days at C.H,S. and bid a fond Farewell, The Class Will We the graduating class of 1956, do hereby will our treasured memories and wonderful times to the incoming classes of 1957-58 and 59, and in addition: To the Juniors, we will our ability to govern a school such as this. To the Sophomores, ialso being -large in numberl we will our ability to stick together and to agree on all things. To the Freshmen, we will our good conduct and our ability to honor and obey the rules of C.l-LS. To the entire student body, we will the peace of mind that we are now leaving behind us. To the faculty, we will our future success and happiness to you who have been so kind and understanding to us and have given us such sincere guidance.
