Knowledge must be worked for, studied for, and thought for, its true value 48 realized only when it is put into circulation in one form or another. Miss MoNeil brought us under control and maneuvers against such realistic enemies as Math, English, History and Home Bo. were success- fully begun. This year was spent in becoming familiar with high sohool tactios. 4fter a three months vacation our group of, now, Sophomores rep- orted back to Ceres High School more self confident than before. at once we began to resume our duties under the leadership ot Miss MoNeil. This year we were very successful and took an active part in organisa- tions such as S.C.d, FeHeA- and various olubs. In 1945 our class composed of eight members, under the supervision of JeM. Thomas, began work more earnestly than ever before. Our group began to display it's talents. In athletics the Juniors contributed such players as Neil, Davis, and Atkins. Dramatic ability was also shown in the Junior olass by the presentation of one act plays. 4s The final year rolled around, the seniors of 1947 worked hard to make Ceres High outstanding in every field. This year the senior group took active part in the S.C.A. with Catron, a Senior member, el- ected to command the group. The Seniors displayed talents in softball, basketball, composition writing and various club work. A play, Too Sweet For Sixteen was presented by the senior class and directed by Miss Crabtree, the spon- sor and Mr. Thomas. All members of the senior class took part in it. The Seniors treated the Junior class to an outdoor Picnic and then took them to a movie. To the school we left an electric clock and we Hope that each time the future classes hear it strike they will be re- minded of the class of '47. How the Senior class wishes to express our appreciation to the taculty for helping us to accomplish our high school goals. How we shall say Vale to our friends at Ceres High School but we will take with us many pleasant and happy memories of our accomplish- ments and good times. PRUPAGC Is everybody here? If so, Let's be piling into the oar...that is our auto-plane and be showing off. Well here We sre, started on our oross-country tour and first of importance in Florida. Look what a lovely mansion. How who's this coming out the door? It's none other than Elisabeth Neil who is beautifully dressed for a party. I understand from the social scolumn that she is leading quite a social life since she moved te Palm Beach. With her is her old classmate,Anne Tilson,Who has recently flown in from Hol- ly wood. I'm dying to see Anne's new film, Brown Byed Angel that has just been released. They say her acting is ont of this world. Bat let's get going again; maybe we'll see some of our Old classmates. wWhy...-look here in Boston at all the people. Let's see what's all the excitement. Goshsit's a courthouse. Let's wee if we recognize anyone. Well, yes, there is the District at- torney, bill Catron, addressing the judge. Who's this on the wit- ness standy It it isn't Mr. Thomas...Let's tind out what this is all about.. a divorces. Mra. Thomas IIlI.- Qh...-Bill certainly has risen to tame. What's the location now? Sew York... Super...... J believe i'd go in one ot these exquisite dress shops. Oh, cricket these dresses are a dream.I positively oan't go back home without one. Ha,Ha, won't my neighbors envy me to know I have this gorge- ous dress designed by our triend Stella Hubble. Gee...-here we are in Indianapolis now and what is that, that sounds like a printing press. Let's investigate. What luck... It's the typetriter Keys ot alta Maye Winesett and Catherine Davis. Oops...there they go out with two tine dressed gentlemen. Hell if it isn't the boss himselt and his manager. fijwHa Ly Now on to Montana. As we pull in our wings I see a lovely lit tle home. But oh.. it belongs to Mr. Wayne Bruce and his wite, the former Irene atkins. And look.. they have company. Why sure enough it's Josie Hubble who has come from Washington to attend a bus- iness meeting for her boss Fred Hubble who is spending his honey- moon in London. Golly, the trip has been wonderful and we saw sev- eral of our friends so I guess for now we had better settle down at home and say So Long to you. Milla GPa G ll, © SUNIGE CLASS RIS We, the Junior class, would like to leave a little bit of our history for the Seniors to look back upom and remember ts in the years to come. One September day in 1944, when the sun was so hot we nearly froze to death, we were very vroud to have the name of Freshman. Our class consisted of 22 green but growing students. We welcomed Betty Jane Dutton in the last semester, but lost at this time, Dorothy Jeslie and Earl Fields who moved from Ceres, and Mona Lee Lambert who preferred staying at home. Our freshman year ended too soon. In the fall of 1945 we took great pride in taking the title of sophomores. The sopho- more class consisted of 2l. Welcoming Curtis Stowers, who chose Ceres High rather than Bland, Nell Terlow, who finally chose matrimony rather than a high school education, Arch Thompson and Graham Hancock, who fell along the wayside, Grahan deciding to stay at home. We lost Warren Hubble and Maxie Neel, who decided they would rather stay at home. To our surorise we now became Juniors, Rita Cassell, who had her first date at the Beta Club party, Jonan Cassell, the girl we always speak to and say, Hello Jo, what do you know? her reply, I don't know nothin' , Dorothy Crabtree, who's always wondering if “he won, Evelyn Groseclose, reporter of the class, who al- ways takes life easy, Gilda Harner, secretary, I wonder who she thinks will buy her wedding rings? Margie J.indamood, who likes to ride in the 1950 Chevrolet car, Aileen Morris, the girl that likes to pull a joke on you and laugh, Esther Repass who can make A plus when she studies, Bill Groseclose, Vice Pres- ident, the boy that's up all night and sleeps in Chemistry class. George Peery, Jr., our class resident, who doesn't attend class meetings. Paul Barger, the verson that is pretty good at wink- ing at the girls, Claude Kidd, treasurer, who runs for Norma and Norma alone, Raymond Thompson, whose alweys happy where there is a girl around, Otis Hounshell, who enjoys throwing chalk, Nelson Tibbs, the boy that learned not to carry sodium in his pocket, Levi Shewey, it's a pity he wasn't a girl. We lost one brilliant student Betty Dutton, who returned to her home in Burkes Garden and is going to school there. The Junior class gave a mystery comedy play, The Haunted School House , which was enjoyed by everyone. The Juniors entertained the seniors by giving them a ban- quet. The auditorium was beaytifully decorated with the class colors and flowers. After the delicious dinner, that everyone enjoyed, they were entertained by playing games, dancing and the like. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. The class colors are blue and yellow, the flowers, iris. We made two trips to Pembrook Playing the District $ tourna- ment. Newport was the defeated team on Priday and Eggleston was G@efeated on Saturday night. We were proud of our victories which included District championship. Friday the lsth was a very unlucky day for our team even tho- ugh we did enjoy a day out of school. When we arrived at Blacks- burg the opponent didn't show up thus giving us the title of Reg- ional Champions. 4s the season progressed the team improved. More harmony was created among the players and a tighter detense was displayed. Our season ended with the geme played at Rich Valley. an ath- letic party was given tor the basketball team 6t which letters and awards were given to the team. Forwards Bo. We were lucky to get back one of our old Players from the army, Fred Hubble, who Played On the team in 1944. We lost almost all of our games but had a lot of fun, The team had a nice coach, Mr. J. E. Rutrough, who has been coaching since 1939. All the boys will get letters that didn't get them last year.
