Our second encounter took place at l.os Banos and was also a win tor the Bulldogs, Zl to o. In our first league game with Maneteca we lost a hard fought hattle, 18 to 0, as Leroy Judd, the all league fullhack, and mates outplayed us in the initial half. Our fighting Bulldogs held them scoreless ethe second half hy their inspiring 'flast half fight. ln the words of Coach Davey, t'l'he second league game with 'l'r..cv was our only poor game of the season. Howard Killmer, a graduating senior, was chosen captain for the year. Coach Haas really put his charges through the paces this year, and every- one of the hoys will admit that they learned a lot ahout foothall. Among other things they learned to work to- gether as a unit, to give and take in the hattle on the gridiron, and to accept the losses with as good grace as the wins. We will hear much more ahout these hoys next foothall season, mark my words. At times it appeared to he hy far the strongest team in the league, and again it looked to he the weakest. The squad was a scrappy hard-fighting team all season. Unfortunately the scores were not always in their tavor, however. They lost some very close games in the practice season, and when the league season rolled around there were many games that were so Close that we Could almost consider them moral victories. The play at the Gustine Tournament was a fitting climax to this year's haskethall season. We made a very line showing as we won our first game from the host team, Gustine, 35 to 25. We were lvealen hy seven points at the hands of Tracy in our next round. Tracy went on to win the tourney. Our team was composed largely of juniors and should develop into a strong title contender hy next year. Returning veterans will he: Don Morrow, Jerry Sparling, Hoyt Vanderpool, Al Donovan and Warren Foletta. Those memhers of the varsity squad who have completed their haskethall careers at Ceres High are: Howard Hughes, Dale l.yons, Julian Benthall, Jim Sanders, Bill Soden and Lloyd Turner, who completed his schooling at mid-term and has since joined the navy. In spite of the actual won and lost record Coach Davey stated that he was proud of the team for they were a hard working, will-to-learn group of boys. Rally Committee The Rally Committee of Ceres High is under the direction and guidance of Mr. Graham, who since he came to Ceres High has heen unselfish with his time, patience, and help, for the good of the school. The Rally Committee has the responsihility of protecting the financial interests of the Student Body. To this end they spend many long hours in wind, cold, rain, and fog or hot sun to guard the fences and watch the gates to prevent those so inclined from gaining free access to football, lraskethall, or hasehall games. There were thirty-three active memhers in the organization this year, many of whom missed an exciting game doing his or her duties. The memliers are to he complimented on their fine work. A. meinhers of the Ceres High School Chapter are truly living up to their motto of learning hy doing and their learning is not necessarily confined to raising hetter crops and livestock hut also includes many other activities which help to develop a well rounded program. Easter vacation found Phillip Vierra, Cene Pope, and Jack Dewey exhibiting at the Grand National Junior Livestock show in San Francisco. They made a very good showing with their stock. John Silveira, chapter president, represented the Ceres Chapter in the sectional puhlic speaking contest held at Oakdale. We are looking forward to the fairs and stock shows this coming year. We know that the competition will he keener than ever hefore, hut we are confident that our stock is good enough to meet that competition. We have improved our stock hy using the hest herd sires availahle and have shipped in two chapter boars from the cornhelt states which are recognized hy authorities as the hest in California.
