To complement the pictorial review, a written story of the year is offered by means of clippings from the Centre College Cento and the Alumni News Letter. This addition has been made, not necessarily from a news angle, but with the idea that it will be of lasting interest to the reader. A brief review of Centre's football history has been included to depict the glorious football history that belongs to Centre College. Another innovation is the simultaneous presentation of advertising copy with part of the editorial material. This is an attempt to give advertisers in Old Centre more for their loyal patronage. Finally, we of the staff, unofficially speaking for every Centre student, should like to dedicate this volume to the per- sons who have made our year at Centre possible, profitable, and pleasant-our professors and our parents.

Foreword. . . A slightly modified version of the traditional Old Centre is presented in this, the 1947-48 issue. Emphasis has been placed on social and extra-curricular activitiesg informality has been the keynote. So far as possible, events have been presented in chronological order, but for production reasons, and to avoid the appearance of a potpourri, customary sec- tions have been established. In some instances, picture flashbacks to the spring of 1947 have been used so that production deadlines could be met. For the purpose of unity and continuity, two typical freshmen, Betty and Bob, have been introduced. They, through intermittent letters to their respective parents, tell of their social and academic life at Old Centre from the time of arrival until the spring commencement exercises.
