NUMBER 4 OH YOUR SPHINX HIT PARADE D THE WEARING OP THE GREEN m O' Students, have you heard the news That's makin' all the rounds? The greenest crop of freshmen Has just landed on our grounds, St. Patrick sure would rub his eyes, He'd swear it Was a dream. Ne'er had he seen his colors gay So dominate a scene. No law can keep the freshman From our campus or our halls, But law can make the freshman stay Although he Wails and bawls. So just sit tight and look aloof, Above all, be serene, And Watch the faculty take turns A' polishing the green. -Betty Pitt, '46 14 tf CA Q? om? How green was our Oswald

lim Tillman Charles Oland Donald Cerny Secretary-Treasurer President Vice-President CLASS QF V18 Fourth spot on YOUR SPHINX HlT PARADE was held down by us tenors, three-hundred and twenty Freshmen, once naive and inexperienced, but nom' very wise in the ways of the musical world. Early in our career we got off to a very smooth start by choosing Charles Oland, Donald Cerny, and lim Tillman to direct us, and Miss Huck and Mr. Ahrens to be our arranger-sponsors. Marching along in the All-Time Hit section of YOUR SPHINX HIT PARADE were Donald Cerny, lohnny Wilson, and Charles Oland. In the course of one short year, Charles became a well-seasoned, as well as an outstanding, athlete. Our fellow classmen who ranked among those with a high musical l. Q. were Mary Lou Cover, Phyllis Franke, Iohn Spaeth, Charles Tate, and fohn Zinkus, all of whom were straight-A students in the first semester. Freshman accompanists to the May Queen were lovely Helen Riley and Melba Beckmeyer. Although we were not sufficiently experienced to have important jobs on the Publishing and Composing staffs, several of us worked most diligently in preparing copy for both the newspaper and yearbook. Now, after completing nine months of work as Freshmen, we are looking forward with a song on our lips to a second year more glorious than the first. 15
