It begins simmering inside of us , then boils to the surface until it's bubbling so violently it overflows into our actions, speech, and facial expres- sions. Emotions evolve and stem from excitement, depression, tension, interest, happiness and much, much more. Everyone has emotions everyday but at different levels. In some situations people can hide their feelings, qfor personal reasonsj, or maybe they're just not moved by an experience in a pos- itive or negative way. In other situations people wreak with so much emotion they can't help hav ing a tear or a glitter in their eyes, a butterfly in their stomachs, a yell of joy or outrage emerg- ing from their throats, a sigh of relief or of shear exhaustion released by their asserted breaths. The face and its expressions are like morrors of these emotions within us, whether they are pas sive or active. Faces bring the beaming expression of pride, the drooping of disappointment, the frown of perplexity, or the anxious look of suspense. The face is a reflection, a reflection of the mirror inside - emotion - never planned, just created or stirred, fleeting by or lingering on. These emotions are what the annual staff is presenting throughout the 1973 Heliostat. HELIOSTAT CENTRALIA HIGH SCHOOL CENTRALIA. It involves the days you want to scream from hassles or tensions in a classy the days you're excited because of a game that nightg or the days you're worried because there's a big test. Not only events and classes involve student life, but the individuals do as well. The same time every day you meet certain people in the hall you smile at, raise a little trouble with a person sitting across from you in studyhall, practice hand in hand with people in ath- letics, work with a teacher on a project, and Finally you talk with best friends. Yes, student life is a lot more than this, but mostly it's just people, experiences, studies, and problems, which everyone learns and grows from. 111111111111 1.1.,,1lmW, 11111111'H1 . NEWSPAPER Publications Class was divided into two staffs, newspaper and annual. Both involved a lot of planning, organizing, and concentration. There were times when the students and Mrs. Gordanier wanted to scream out in frustration, but they continued revising and striving for a better newspaper and annual. 4l Some necessary and helpful people are the custodians and cooks. The janitors this year were Mr. Luttrel, Mr. Conley, and Mr. Hall. The cooks were Mrs. Selby, Mrs. Pool, Mrs. Dowell, and Mrs. Torreyson. They're the ones who cooked 166 meals and cleaned up after 447 students. COOKS. CUSTODIANS IMPORTANT PEOPLE AT CHS H olds K o xo tx, 0-'Nl-5 cuss we, gmc.. GYMNASTICQ TEAM PERFORMS AT REGIONAL Students on this year's CHS gym- nastics team performed a 30-minute show forthe audience of the boy's regionals at Centralia. Floats were built and a parade was formed. Then came the rain . . . and rain and rain. But this did not dampen the hopes of the crowd or the determination of the team as the Homecoming game began. Five pretty girls all in a row, each with a dream of being a queen. L Vfrr And for one the dream came true, as Kim Grace was crowned Home- coming Queen. But the wish for a perfect Homecoming vanished as the Panthers were defeated by the Macon Tigers in a hard fought clash on the muddy gridiron. The Saturday night dance climaxed the Homecoming week. VOOTBALL ENDS WITH 7-3 RECORD Mark Welborn The '72 football season started with a young, unexperienced team, Not many people thought this team would have a chance since they were smaller than most of their competitors, but this only made the team work harder. They certainly proved themselves when they finished with the best record that Centralia has had since 1968. Highlighting the '72 season was the game against South Shelby. This was a game that the team wanted badly and they fought their way to a victory which they could be proud of.
