CLASS HISTORY Four years ago, early one September morning, the faculty of Centralia High School suddenly caught a glimpse of some thing new and strange, huddled together in mute embarrassment and anxiety These individuals were what became the class of 1953 To the casual eye, they seemed merely a group of or dinary boys and girls But to the trained eyes of the facult these strangers were quite obviously the Freshmen Class The discoverers of the class of 1953 will be celebrated in history for the gentleness and courtesy they ever dis played toward these strange beings they so curiously en ' countered on September 3 19h9 During the first month of this year, the Freshmen suffered much inconvenience because of their unfamiliarity with rules and regulations that had been established during the preceding years Already some of the Freshmen were showing signs of un usual ability in various fields, such as athletics, music, and home economics During that year they were engaged in club work and other various activities concerning school With the coming of the next September, they received a new name Because of their skill in acquiring the customs of the school, they were renamed Sophomores The routine of the classroom was now familiar and they found studying easier than before Remembering how they had been regarded in the previous year, they proceeded to render this same attitude toward the incoming Freshmen The found that this year was somewhat the same as the year before in regard to studies and activities In the third year, according to an old educational cus tom, the Sophomores became Juniors and thus became engrossed And now we come to the fourth and greatest year in the history of the class The Juniors were promoted to Seniors A class color, will, prophecy, poem, and motto were chosen and adopted by the Senior class Numerous methods were used lor accumulating money for their trip to Washington D C and New York Among those were selling concessions at basketball games, selling magazine sub scriptions and stationery Toward the latter part of the year, most of their time was devoted to the approaching graduation ceremonies On the eventful day of May 20, 1953 the Seniors received their diplomas and left to take their positions in the outside world Written by Sharon Timmons FI 8 C III!!!
