ELEMENTARY SCHOOL The objective of our elementary school is to do everything possible to help each child develop his own individual capacities. We realize that our goal can be achieved only through careful planning and cooperation of the teachers. pupils and parents of our community. Many activities are provided in order to give the children an opportunity to assume worthwhile responsibilities and to develop self reliance and self confi- dence. We believe that children should 11ot only have an opportunity to learn the three R's but also have an opportunity to experience democratic living through planning, sharing, working and evaluating. It is our desire that each child recognize his contributions to society and be allowed to develop his abilities through careful guidance. The Georgia committee on Elementary Education has selected our Ele- mentary School as one of the 27 schools to carry on a special Elementary School Program. The object of the program is to improve Elementary Education not only in Georgia but also in the Southern States. Our school was selected because we were already carrying on a progressive program, had a stable faculty and were fortunate in having a cooperative community. Representatives from teacher education institutions, State Department of Education and other resourceful people will work with us a11d at the end of three years we hope to have a school that will be worthy as an observation center. Ill order to make i111prove1ne11ts in our school we have already begun some planning and work. Our pupils, teachers and parents have had several meetings to discuss and make plans for desirable changes in our school. CENTRMHATCHEE P. T. A. Our Parent-Teacher Association was organized in August with the following oliicers: President-Mrs. J. D. Harcrowg Vice-President-Mrs. L. W. Favorg Secretary-Mrs. Il. ll. Elrodg Treasurer--Mrs. T. E. Chambers. Our regular meeting is held every first Tuesday afternoon at 3:30. We have been very for- tunate in having a good attendance at each meeting. These people are greatly concerned about the growth of their school and community. They have been anxious to render their time and services to make it possible for us to have a better school program. Through the organization of our P.-T.A. we have secured a better relationship between our parents, teachers and pupils. We realize that it is only through this close relationship a11d cooperation that we may be able to understand each child. We want to meet the needs of our children. We want to guide them into the proper channels. We can do it only through mutual interest and common understanding between our parents and teachers. 30
