PLANE OF EDUCATION The loudspeaker bellowed forth, Attention all personnel! Plane No. 48 about to land. All preparations are being made for landing, proceed to south runway. The passengers are about to complete an 11,000-mile journey. At the be- ginning of this trip, Mr. N. A. Rogers was the pilot, and Mr. Leon Shelnutt was the co-pilot, and Miss Fannie Mae Jackson was the hostess. The passenger list was as follows: Betty Sue Hannah, Mildred Adams, Ernestine Almon, Betty Buchanan, Bobbie Sue Gore, Pauline Johnson, Bobbie Jackson, Virginia Kend- rick, Gertie Mae Norwood, Melba Jean Purgason, Reba Teal, James Brand, Travis Cassell, Billy Hyatt, Billy Lipham, Malory Shelnutt, Marvin Johnson, Lavern Buttrum, and Billy Joe Merrill. The first four thousand miles were uneventful, except for the addition of Betty Lene Woodruff, Opal Vaughan, Margaret Knight, a11d Norman Prince. The plane was almost forced down over the Geography Hills, however, it regained altitude and flew on for four thousand more miles. Next, James Arrington, R. L. Bailey, Gerald Cassell, and Earlie Mae Banks were added to our list. Bad weather from the clouds of Algebraic Soup overtook the plane, but it continued its long journey. As we began our ninth-thousand mile our passenger list was swelled by the addition of Cutine Noles, Ella Mae Sanders, Lou Jean Hannah, Joyce Daniel, Udine Noles, Janet Smith, Harvey Neighbors, Lamon Neighbors, Bradley Milam, James Gardner, Eugene Sheets, Billy Shelnutt, and Homer Laster. The hostesses were changed at the expiration of each thousand miles. Trou- ble again arose on the horizon, headaches caused by English Crackers attacked some of the crew. These were not serious because of the good remedies prescribed by Miss Rossie Mae Cash a11d Mrs. Vance Goodner. At the beginning of the tenth thousand mile, Mr. Gay Shelnutt became the pilot and Mrs. Mozelle Smith as hostess. For the last two thousand miles the passenger list increased by the addition of Vera and Jessie Medlock, Mary Joyce Frost, Melba Jean Purgason, Agnes Bryan, Eugene Evans, Junior Noles, Russ Ilester, Maylon Phillips, Marvis Marlowe, Bobby Phillips, Arlin Paschal, Dan Denney, Don Payton, Bobby Coleman, Brooks Landers, Jack Walls, Dewey Loftin, Marvin Noles, and Harris Gray. ' During the eleventh thousand mile of our journey, a large group of people who called themselves Juniors boarded our plane and served us delicacies. Also, during this last lap of our journey, Owen Cook Davis and Dara Worley found seats on the crowded plane. We were also entertained on board by The Great Spirit of hard work and diligent concentration, namely YEARBOOK. As we neared the end of our journey, with Mr. Gay Shelnutt as pilot and Miss Bobbie Baskin, hostess, numerous preparations for landing on the Runway of Life were made. We honored those of our number who were outstanding in scholastic ability, character, personality and athletics. We chose a motto to guide us 011 through life, Onward ever, backward never. Our colors. red alld white, and flower, the rose, were chosen to represent our group. We engaged in a number of activities and finally the plane circled the field and descended for a perfect landing, thus completing its long journey. The date of landing was Graduation Day, 1948.
