All preparations are being made for landing, proceed to south runway. The passengers are about to complete an 11,000-mile journey. At the be- ginning of this trip, Mr. N. A. Rogers was the pilot, and Mr. Leon Shelnutt was the co-pilot, and Miss Fannie Mae Jackson was the hostess. The passenger list was as follows: Betty Sue Hannah, Mildred Adams, Ernestine Almon, Betty Buchanan, Bobbie Sue Gore, Pauline Johnson, Bobbie Jackson, Virginia Kend- rick, Gertie Mae Norwood, Melba Jean Purgason, Reba Teal, James Brand, Travis Cassell, Billy Hyatt, Billy Lipham, Malory Shelnutt, Marvin Johnson, Lavern Buttrum, and Billy Joe Merrill. The first four thousand miles were uneventful, except for the addition of Betty Lene Woodruff, Opal Vaughan, Margaret Knight, a11d Norman Prince. The plane was almost forced down over the Geography Hills, however, it regained altitude and flew on for four thousand more miles. Next, James Arrington, R. L. Bailey, Gerald Cassell, and Earlie Mae Banks were added to our list. Bad weather from the clouds of Algebraic Soup overtook the plane, but it continued its long journey. As we began our ninth-thousand mile our passenger list was swelled by the addition of Cutine Noles, Ella Mae Sanders, Lou Jean Hannah, Joyce Daniel, Udine Noles, Janet Smith, Harvey Neighbors, Lamon Neighbors, Bradley Milam, James Gardner, Eugene Sheets, Billy Shelnutt, and Homer Laster. The hostesses were changed at the expiration of each thousand miles. Trou- ble again arose on the horizon, headaches caused by English Crackers attacked some of the crew. These were not serious because of the good remedies prescribed by Miss Rossie Mae Cash a11d Mrs. Vance Goodner. At the beginning of the tenth thousand mile, Mr. Gay Shelnutt became the pilot and Mrs. Mozelle Smith as hostess. For the last two thousand miles the passenger list increased by the addition of Vera and Jessie Medlock, Mary Joyce Frost, Melba Jean Purgason, Agnes Bryan, Eugene Evans, Junior Noles, Russ Ilester, Maylon Phillips, Marvis Marlowe, Bobby Phillips, Arlin Paschal, Dan Denney, Don Payton, Bobby Coleman, Brooks Landers, Jack Walls, Dewey Loftin, Marvin Noles, and Harris Gray. ' During the eleventh thousand mile of our journey, a large group of people who called themselves Juniors boarded our plane and served us delicacies. Also, during this last lap of our journey, Owen Cook Davis and Dara Worley found seats on the crowded plane. We were also entertained on board by The Great Spirit of hard work and diligent concentration, namely YEARBOOK. As we neared the end of our journey, with Mr. Gay Shelnutt as pilot and Miss Bobbie Baskin, hostess, numerous preparations for landing on the Runway of Life were made. We honored those of our number who were outstanding in scholastic ability, character, personality and athletics. We chose a motto to guide us 011 through life, Onward ever, backward never. Our colors. red alld white, and flower, the rose, were chosen to represent our group. We engaged in a number of activities and finally the plane circled the field and descended for a perfect landing, thus completing its long journey. The date of landing was Graduation Day, 1948. Lou JEAN HANNAH BOBBIE JACKSON 12 CLASS Wlll Be it known, to whom it may concern, that whereas we, the Senior Class, having completed our eleven allotted years in C. H. S., and whereas, we are now come to our graduation in May, 1948, we hereby relinquish all rights to being the Big Shots of C. H. S. and declare this to be our last will and testament: Dewey Loftin leaves his favorite desk to Hollis Stephens. Marvis Marlowe leaves his red hair to Bobby Wright. Arlin Paschal leaves his singing ability to Junior Teal. Homer Laster leaves his ability to sleep in class to J. B. Prince. Vera Medlock leaves her literary ability to Carol Merrill. Junior Noles leaves the u11shot goal to James Arrington. We, Agnes Bryan and Jack Walls, leave our loud mouths to Nell Weaver. R. L. Bailey leaves his presidential manner to Jerry Kelley. Dan Denney leaves his bashfulness to Preston Geter. Lou Jean Hannah leaves her ability to play ball to Lennie Striplin. Joyce Daniel leaves all her important positions to Geraldine Paschal. Bobbie Jackson leaves her friendly smile to Johnnie Jean Davis. Agnes Bryan leaves her blushing ability to Glyness Barker. Cutine Noles leaves her sweet disposition to Lois Philips. Udine Noles leaves her neatness to Sara Loftin. Jessie Medlock leaves his physique to Hershel Parmer. Brooks Landers leaves his big feet to Charlie Dean. Pauline Johnson leaves her slimness to June Johnson. Eugene Sheets leaves his Mischieviousness to Jimmy Arp. Owen Cook Davis leaves his loud colored jackets to Bobby Duke. I, Russ Hester, leave Lennie Striplin to Maurice Brandenburg, so take good care of her for me. Dara Worley Gore leaves her smile and dimples to Elizabeth Vaughan. Eugene Evans leaves his ability to staying at home all the time to Maylon Philips. Bradley Milam leaves his intellectual ability to Reba Rogers. Bobby Coleman leaves his curly hair to Bobby Joe Masdom. I, Harvey Neighbors, leave my nickname Gord to Durell Yates. I, Jack Walls, leave my biting remarks to anyone in the Junior class who is smart enough to get by with them. And finally, to the faculty of Centralhatchee High School, we leave our great love and respect, and to our Alma Mater our undying loyalty and affection. Ten years have elapsed and let 's see if we can find any of the old gang who graduated from Centralhatchee High in '48, Hey over there does that sign say, Modern Beauty Shoppe. Let 's stop in for a manicure. Why here 's Udine Noles and Vera Medlock. They always did try to please the men. Here 's a drug store, let 's stop in for a soda, and catch up on the gossip. Well, here 's Jack Walls and Travis Cassell soda jerking. Once a jerk, always a jerk, I say. On Central Avenue is a grocery store owned by Brooks Landers. Here 's the hospital, let 's go in and see if we can find any of the old crowd. They were al- ways ailing fin the head of coursej. Well what have we here? Nurses. No, Agnes Bryan guar- anteed to cure or kill. Strolling on down the street and peering into an office window we see Pauline Johnson on the boss' knee taking dictation. Such Short- hand. They didn't teach it like that when I went to old C. H. S. Going on down the familiar old street, we pass the Gateway Office and Marvis Marlowe draws our attention by his complete lack of interest in the editorial R. L. Bailey is labor- ously hammering out on the typewriter. Here is the grand old school. Only it 's new now, thank goodness, the younger generation will never have the old building to find fault. Hearing Tschaikowsky and tracking it down we find Bobbie Jackson teaching music. Who's the industrious Math teacher? Well, Russ Hester. I wonder if he helps pupils in Alge- bra like he used to help us on Exams. That 's a laugh .... To the gym. Why, if it isn't Lou Jean Hannah teaching Physical Education. And now for the opening basketball game of the season. Centralhatchee Red Birds vs. AHEAD University of Georgia. There 's a coach giving the boys a last minute pep talk. That blonde head looks strongly familiar. Why it 's Eugene Sheets. Now look at the opposing team with Junior Noles as their coach. They should put up some strong opposition. Let's take in a movie after this game. Here's Owen Cook Davis as manager. Joyce Daniel selling tic- kets Cshe always did like to handle doughl. Here are two handsome ushers to show us to our seats. They're Bobby Coleman and Eu- gene Evans. We 're tired, and our feet are praying for a lift, so we hail a taxi. We see another familiar face, Harvey Neighbors, the Textile Executive. As we gander out the Window we noticed a neon lighted sign, Pete 's Cleaners, and the handsome owner, Arlin Paschel, flirting with his stenographer, Cutine Noles. We ride past the business section to the residential section of town where we see a par- sonage, inside the Rev. Bradley Milam is try- ing to cheer the homesick Marine, Dan Den- ney. While an annoying sound comes from the kitchen, and who could it be but Dewey Loften tinkering with the refrigerator. There comes into view a prosperous looking chicken farm, and there's Dara Worley Gore delivering eggs for the day f just a part time jobl. Before turning off our Radar a11d Atomic Energy, we see Jessie Medlock, the building contractor, completing a purchase from the great lumberman, Homer Laster. We have seen boys and girls still holding aloft the banner of physical, mental, and cul- tural development, through whom Central- hatchee High School continues to serve by in- stilling into these young boys and girls high ideals of thinking and living. We realize that our goal can be achieved only through careful planning and cooperation of the teachers. pupils and parents of our community. Many activities are provided in order to give the children an opportunity to assume worthwhile responsibilities and to develop self reliance and self confi- dence. We believe that children should 11ot only have an opportunity to learn the three R's but also have an opportunity to experience democratic living through planning, sharing, working and evaluating. It is our desire that each child recognize his contributions to society and be allowed to develop his abilities through careful guidance. The Georgia committee on Elementary Education has selected our Ele- mentary School as one of the 27 schools to carry on a special Elementary School Program. The object of the program is to improve Elementary Education not only in Georgia but also in the Southern States. Our school was selected because we were already carrying on a progressive program, had a stable faculty and were fortunate in having a cooperative community. Representatives from teacher education institutions, State Department of Education and other resourceful people will work with us a11d at the end of three years we hope to have a school that will be worthy as an observation center. Ill order to make i111prove1ne11ts in our school we have already begun some planning and work. Our pupils, teachers and parents have had several meetings to discuss and make plans for desirable changes in our school. CENTRMHATCHEE P. T. A. Our Parent-Teacher Association was organized in August with the following oliicers: President-Mrs. J. D. Harcrowg Vice-President-Mrs. L. W. Favorg Secretary-Mrs. Il. ll. Elrodg Treasurer--Mrs. T. E. Chambers. Our regular meeting is held every first Tuesday afternoon at 3:30. We have been very for- tunate in having a good attendance at each meeting. These people are greatly concerned about the growth of their school and community. They have been anxious to render their time and services to make it possible for us to have a better school program. Through the organization of our P.-T.A. we have secured a better relationship between our parents, teachers and pupils. We realize that it is only through this close relationship a11d cooperation that we may be able to understand each child. We want to meet the needs of our children. We want to guide them into the proper channels. We can do it only through mutual interest and common understanding between our parents and teachers. 30 .Lab- 'or 00 55 - L' tl!- ai . x-'tual-.:: , Q. vvun .
