University of Virginia Training students for a career in the field of special education at a Christian College is an opportunity to share my Christian faith and my concern for the mentally retarded. I find it both challenging and rewarding. Education is companion which no misfortune can decrease, no crime destroy, no enemy alienate, no despotism enslave; at home a friend, abroad an introduction, in solitude a solace, in society an ornament. It chastens vice, guides virtue, and gives grace and government to genius. Education may cost financial sacrifice and mental pain, but in both money and life values it will repay every cost one hundred fold. 24 PHYSICAL EDUCATION Keith Connor Associate Professor of Physical Education B.S., High Point College M.A.T., University of North Carolina Ed.D., University of Georgia Tom Shaver B.B.A., University of Georgia M.Ed., University of Georgia 25 Coaches Keith Connor and Tom Shaver talk with Victor Alvarez. WHO’S WHO Clifton Dale Richey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Parkes Richey of Greensboro, North Carolina. A transfer from John Wesley College, Dale talks about CWC, I am greatly indebted to this institution for the tremendous spiritual leadership and development it has caused in my life. While at CWC Dale has participated in CSO, Campus Crusade for Christ, Direct Current, Chamber and Concert Choirs, and Dorm Council. Dale has played on the CWC soccer team and has served as President of the sophomore class. Dale's hobbies include basketball, baseball, and automobiles. As a Church Music major. That expresses my feeling as I write this last page of the annual. Vet this has been an experience that I will end with mixed emotions. I've learned a lot through working on the annual, and I'm sure this experience will be beneficial to me in the future. Nevertheless, I can see my mistakes and wish that I could revise them. I hope that each of you as members of the student body of CWC can sense the spirit of this school within these pages. Friendships are important to all of us. Those smiles and kind words are what help get us through the day. CWC is a friendly college, and you are the people that make her what she is. This year's staff has been wonderful Thank you Janna Richey for sacrificing valuable time to keep track of bills and statements and keep aware of our financial status. I appreciate your willingness and eagerness to help. Donna Earwood, Kris Shannon, Wanda Adkins, Jennie Aiken, and David Nolan • thank you for the extra effort you all contributed to your sections. I could not have asked for a staff to be more cooperative and understanding. I'm especially indebted to those who sold ads and candy - Janna Richey, Donna Earwood, Ann Davis, Raylene Rodrigue , Jennie Aiken, and Tina Scott. A special thank you to you - Ann Davis. I can't tell you how much it has meant to me to have you as a photographer. I appreciate your willingness to go the extra mile in meeting deadlines. I'm also indebted to Calvin Meaders and John Mayo. You are a great bunch of girls fifth floor. Thank you for putting up with that banging typewriter going in the middle of the night. Most importantly - thank you Dr. Laura Vinson for being there. Words can't express my gratefulness for your smile and your encouraging words. Thanks for bearing with me through all that copy! It has been a good and exciting year at CWC. Have a great summer and carry these memories with you. Love and Best Wishes, Diane Holder 1980-81 Editor 176
