CENTRALIAN 1972 All the world’s a stage; And all the men and women merely players. —The Merchant of Venice V % All the World’s a Stage 4 . . . And All the Men and Women Merely Players. s Our Stage; We, the Players Featuring Mrs. Kathleen Tegen Mr. Lewis Hill Mrs. Anne Hill In every play there are people who are not the main stars, yet who leave a lasting impression on the other members of the cast because of their sincerity and concern. We would like to bring a special recognition to three outstanding people who have worked especially hard to make our play a success. Coach and Mrs. Hill have been great supporting actors for our play. Along with them has been Mrs. Tegen who works as acquisition clerk in the library. Coach Hill perfected our touring group known as the Central Wesleyan Warriors into a superb performing team. He led them to Marion, Indiana, where they won second place in the Wesleyan tournament. Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Tegen have worked diligently in the library providing each of the players with a vast resource of materials to use in our creations. We appreciate these people and thank them for their help in enriching each of our lives. 8 II f— t ABOVE: Brenda Joyce Jones from Central. S.C., has been an outstanding student at Central Wes- leyan College. She has made the Dean’s List every semester, received an award for her high academic standing in French, and was an usher in the 1971 graduation. Brenda was on the initial cheerleading squad for the CWC Warriors and represented her sophomore class in the homecoming activities. She is majoring in elementary education and plans to teach school after graduating. RIGHT: Kathleen Dongell Rickman, a biology major from Central, S.C., has contributed much to Central while she has attended here. She was president of her freshman class, a member of the homecoming court two years, and has been a member of the Student Senate. Kathy was a Mar- shall at graduation her junior year. After gradu- ation she plans to teach high school while her husband, Cary, attends Asbury Theological Sem- inary. 10 Who’s Who LEFT: David Samuel Medders of Prattville, Ala- bama, has been president of the Foreign Missions Fellowship for two years. He was a member of the first Warrior Pep Band and was active in YES Corp for two years. David was vice-president of the Young Republican Club his sophomore year and was a member of the Varsity Quartet. He plans to attend Asbury Seminary after graduation. BELOW: Sandra High Waggoner from Gastonia. North Carolina, is completing a major in elemen- tary education. She has been secretary of the Stu- dent Senate, vice-president of the Dorm Council, and was associated with the Model Congress Or- ganization Committee in 1969-70 Sandra received the Student-of-the-Month award her junior year, and also received an honor scholarship when she was a freshman. She plans to work in elemen- tary education after graduation. BELOW: Douglas Thurmond Caldwell has been an outstanding leader during his four years at CWC. He was president of the Student Senate, sophomore and freshman class treasurer, and ju- nior class president. Doug spent two summers with the YES Corp and was chaplain of the Boys' Dorm. He was assistant sports photographer and photographer for the Centralian staff. After gradu- ation he plans to enter the ministry. • • fcMB?FJtetkllfc . M Behind every production, great or small, stands the real backbone of the play. Dr. Rickman con- trols the action behind the scenes for the stage here at Central. Many times the efforts of the peo- ple behind the production seem to go unnoticed, but we would like to commend Dr. Rickman for the work he has done to make our lives here at Cen- tral a pleasant experience. President Claude R. Rickman, Ph.D. Two other men play important roles in our production. Dr. Wood, our Academic Dean, works hard to perfect the script for our play. Professor Robbins, Dean of Stu- dents, coaches each of the players and assists them in developing their roles. We appreciate the valuable experiences that these two men are teaching us, the actors and actresses. Deans f Hal Robbins, M.A. Paul Wood, Ph.D. 15 Business Manager—Registrar The finances and the limiting of the cast are controlled by Mr B. D. Jones, Business Manager, and Mr. Jimmy Kimble. Regis- trar. No play can be successful without a firm monetary basis. The cast must be carefully se- lected and each player must live his role in reality. We, the play- ers, sincerely appreciate the work done by these two men. 17 In Memoriam Dr. J. It has been a hard, pressurizing year; yet by God's grace we made it. One question kept hitting me—How’s the annual coming?—and the answer was always the same. It’s coming. I owe a lot of thanks to a lot of people. To the staff, and especially my crew of Moonlighters, I extend a very appreciative THANK YOU. The whole works would have been a flop without your help. Mr. Kimble, Mrs. Poole, thank you for putting up with me and my everlasting predicaments and questions. Your encouragement was very welcome throughout the year. I also wish to thank Mr. Leroy Wilson for the use of his stream and pasture (at picture-taking time) and especially Mr. Bill Wilhoyt whose corn mill and dam were photographed for the introduction. A very special thanks goes to Worth Lineberry, our ICP representative. Without his help, this book would have been virtually impossible. And last, but really first, I thank my mom and dad for their “back-stage” contributions. Without their diligent prayers and petitions, Centralian ’72 would be a myth instead of a reality. I looked through several books trying to find one heavy thought with which to end vol. 38, but there didn’t seem to be one. In carrying out my theme, I would simply re-quote Shakespeare. All the world’s a stage ... .A stage where every man must play a part. This page draws the final curtain for this year’s Centralian, but next year is a brand new show. Look out into God's sun and find your role, your goal. Then play your part striving to meet that goal. 192 Marcia Stacey
