Central Wes- leyan football competition was determined in classes rather than the traditional Phifomathian-Keewanis Societies. The freshman and senior classes joined to form the Savages, and the sophomores and juniors, the Martyrs. The season, consisting of seven games, began in October and ended Thanksgiving Day with the Martyrs winning three games, the Savages, two; and the teams tying twice. 66 November 5, 1966—Martyrs 0—Savages 14 November 19, 1966—Martyrs 28—Savages 18 November 24, 1966—Martyrs 20—Savages 20 67 Martyrs Reggie Gentry Ronnie Brank Toy Head Charles Reed Joe Thompson Phil Bailey Eugene Bradley Steve Everhart Reggie Funderburk Mike Green Charlie Johnson Sam Jones Doug King Don Milstead Bubby Rampey Bobby Roach Rick Sims David Tesnow ♦Captain I 68 Savages Jack Brooks Hubert Putman Allen Barrett Bob Black Willie Rush Blair Slaughter Joey Blanton Bob Bolton Ronnie Chastain Kenneth George Ronald Gilstrap Larry Klotzle Clyde Lappin Odell Lindsay Eugene McGinnas Ted Owens Glenn Rainey Cary Rickman Bill Scott David Snipes Bill Taylor Dan Taylor Danny Viers Don Wheeler Co-captains 69 Martyrs Sophomore-Junior Carol Childs Ginny Johnson Myra Alexander Betty Thompson Joan Wood Myra McCammon Sarah Powell Karen Andrews Captain—Betty Thompson 70 NEB Savages Freshman-Senior Rose AAosser Diane Wilson Pat Miller Winnie Beeks Lorene Strickland 71 Captain—Rose Mosser Coach Mullinax —Innovator Many improvements have been made in the physi- cal education department with the ingenuity and hard work of our new athletic director, Paul Mullinax. Coach Mullinax came to Central in the fall of 1966 from Marion, Indiana. Not only did he bring new sports such as soccer, tennis, and golf, into our ath- letic program, but he also devoted himself to ac- quiring the necessary funds for a gymnasium and stu- dent union complex. C. W. C. is proud to have Coach Mullinax as a member of her faculty. 72 Basketball-196 7 While the Juniors and Seniors combined to form one team, in men's and women's basketball, the Sophomores and Freshmen constitute a second and a third team. Games were played in the D. W. Daniel High School Gymnasium and refereed by Coach Paul Mullinax and Mr. Harold Nash. 74 Sophomores take championship again 75 76 78 , 79 the recognition of experience, the dignity and worth of wisdom Dr. R.
