I he path leading upward is often rugged and rough. Many times we may stumble and taker, hut it is when the going is difficult that vve want to strive harder to reach the top of the mountain. It is then that we have the feeling of mastery and accomplishment. happy thought it is to know that the seemingly unconquerable peaks have been conquered with the help of the Heavenly Guide, Social... Physical ... and Aesthetic Peaks ... 7 DEDICATION With your pleasing manner and apparently never- ending knowledge, you have contributed much to Central Wesleyan College. Such a loyalty as yours requires integrity, dependability, sincerity, and the acceptance of responsibility. Your interest in us and your prayers for us have helped us climb to higher peaks in the spiritual realm. Your advice and encouragement have made us want to press upward in pursuing our goals for life. Through the years you have sought to inform our intellects, shape our characters, and guide our emotions. For your continued endeavors in pre- paring us for future life, we would like to express a heartfelt thanks. With sincere appreciation for all that you have done for us and with love and gratitude, we dedi- cate the 1962 edition of the CENTRALIAN to you, Miss Freda Myers. Miss Freda Myers 8 ♦ ♦ ♦ Our President Says Freshman, sophomore, junior, senior—these are the traditional steps to the sheepskin. Onward and upward we climb the ladder of learning. But formal edu- cation alone does not constitute the entire process of acquiring knowledge. Learn- ing in a nuclear age constitutes a great challenge. As one learns, the horizon on the great unlimited sea of knowledge recedes. The more more we learn the more we find there is to know. Alexander Pope well said, “A little learning is a dange- rous thing. But knowledge, to be of true value, must be accompanied by wisdom. Consequently, Christian education is the highest type of learning; that is why Christian schools are needed. It has been yours as students to enjoy a year of learning in a Christian atmos- phere. The 1962 Centralian depicts the happy scenes of that school session. May the memories of the people and events of the year depicted in this annual be cherished across the years to come, and may you ever be true to the ideals you have learned in a Christian college. WHO’S Leadership exemplified describes the reputation that Charles has established for himself during his four years at Central Wesleyan College. This served as a major factor in his being selected to represent C.W.C. in Who’s Who. Serving the student body as student body president for two consecutive years, Charles has been the first person in the history of the school to hold this post twice. Scholarship, dependa- bility, capability, and Christian consistency characterize his life. As Charles continues to honor Cod with his life, Cod will con- tinue to honor his as He makes Charles's life an asset to his fellow man, 22 WHO During her seven years of attendance at C.W.C., Frankie has proved herself worthy of the honor of being included in Who’s Who. Her dependability, perseverance, and versatility are all evidences of her worth. Her dedication and devotion to the cause of Christ are shown in her many activities. Frankie’s talents are many, and she has rendered much service to C.W.C. by way of them. She is commonly seen at the piano and in various vocal groups representing the school and serving Christ. Her variety of abilities will prove to be a definite asset in her future. 23 LINDA MARIE BISHOP LOIS ILENE BRIGGS SIDNEY FRANCIS BUNN GLORIA JEANNETTE BUTLER Greenville, South Carolina Gastonia, North Carolina Newport News, Virginia Bessemer City, North Carolina COLLEGE As we are about to enter tile last year of col- lege, we are made to realize the importance of making the most of our time. The staff, Miss Uehele, Mr. Miller, Mr. McDermott, and Keys Printing Corporation in Greenville deserve special thanks. If you do not find your picture in the book or if we have made glaring errors, please for- give us. They were not intentional. Thank you for the privilege of working as your editor this year. I have enjoyed serving you in this capacity. I want to praise the Lord for the way He has helped and guided in this venture. He has provided ideas and ways when it seemed they had all vanished.
