Quietly she greets her pupils, eager to help them open the door to a fuller appreciation of the beauty of music. Faithfully she assumes her position at the organ for chapel exercises and at the piano for Sunday school services. Diligently she spends many hours in the library, im- proving her store of knowledge in order that she may better teach her students. Unobtrusively she takes an active part in the missionary activities of the school and church. Sincerely she serves Christ by serving her fellowmen, setting an ex- cellent Christian example for the young people of Central Wesleyan College. As a token of our appreciation to one who has, in her quiet manner, contributed greatly to various areas of college life, we dedicate the 1960 edition of the Centralian to Miss Jessie E. Taylor. Page Sevei ALMA MATER 1. O Wesleyan College, we love thee; Thy name we sincerely adore. Praise, honor, and laud do we give thee. To thee we will sing evermore. On the breast of the wide, surging ocean, In forest, on mountain, and plain, S. Men shall know of our hearts’ true devotion And list to our song of thy fame. (Fine) And list to our song of thy fame, And list to our song of thy fame, D.S. 2. O Wesleyan College, we love thee; Thy halls and thy campus are dear; May no harm ever come to molest thee. And God always bless thee with cheer. Thou fountain of wisdom and learning. We will drink of the clear, crystal flood; S. Then out to the great world returning, We will fight for the true and the good. (Fine) We will fight for the true and the good. We will fight for the true and the good, D.S. 3. O Wesleyan College, well love thee, When out from thy hall we have gone; Still bright may the skies be above thee, While we up Life's pathway press on; When others our places have taken. And strangers have entered thy door, S. In our mem’ry thou’lt ne’er be forsaken And thy praises we’ll sing evermore. (Fine) And thy praises we’ll sing evermore, And thy praises well sing evermore, D.S. The Master once said, “I am the Door; I constitute the door to salvation, the door to Christian service, and the door to Heaven.” Central Wesleyan College, founded by the Master, also stands as an open door. It is a door to the development of Christian character and to training for Christian service. For fifty-three years this door has stood ajar for the youth who chose to enter. Many have, by entering this door, attained wisdom and learning. They have made their lives a blessing to the world. It is up to us, the sons and daughters of Central Wesleyan College, to keep that door open for the years that lie ahead. At the cost of sacrifice, toil, and service we must help Central become a better and greater school. R. C. Central Wes- leyan College has selected nominees to be honored in the publication, Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Selected as the 1960 nominees are Helen Blackburn Lane and Forris Greene Barnard, both of the college senior class. Helen Blackburn Lane has shown her out- standing leadership and cooperation by her participation in many activities of the school. She is a member of the Keewanis Literary Society, Christian Service, Wesleyan Youth, and Foreign Missions Fellowship. Helen was a member of the Collegian staff for three years and served as editor during her sophomore year. During the 1958 commencement, she re- ceived the American Legion Civitan Award for her outstanding service. She also served as usher in the 1957 commencement and as marshall in the 1959 commencement. With her variety of abilities and her willingness to work, Helen seems sure to make a useful con- tribution to society. Page Thirty-Eight WHO’S WHO Forris Greene Barnard has given much time and effort to the Christian Service organiza- tion. Having received a call into the minis- try, he has served on various gospel teams while at Central. He is a member of the Phil- omathian Literary Society. During his senior year, Forris has served as pastor of the Cherokee Wesleyan Methodist Church, a charge of the North Carolina Conference. We pray God’s richest blessings upon him.
