DR. SAMUELSON ■ The 1963 HYAKEM is dedicated to Dr. Emil E. Samuelson, Dean of Students, who through thirty-one years of service has come to be affectionately known to Central students as Dr. Sam. ' ■ Dr. Samuel son was born in Port Wing, Wisconsin and served in the Student Army Training Corps in 1918 during World War I. He received his B.A. in 1925 ond his M.A. and Ph. D. degrees in 1932 at the University of Wisconsin. ■ In 1932, Dr. Sam came to Central as Director of Student Personnel Services, Placement Director, ond head of the Department of Education. ■ Always open to students with problems, students who want advice or students who just want to come in and talk about things in general is Dr. Sam ' s office. His smile is friendly ond his greeting is warm. His manner is never rushed. Busy as he is, he always has time to help a student. ■ Dr. Sam and his wife are friends-in-o- foreign land to a host of foreign students and do everything possible to see that the students from abrood adjust easily to American ways. • Dr. Sam is active in the Kiwanis Club (It. Gov. of Kiwanis 1959-1960), American Association of University Professors, American Personnel Guidance Association, Red Cross, United Good Neighbors, National Education Association, Kappa Delta Pi, and Phi Delta Kappa. He wos the recipient of the Silver Beaver Boy Scout Award, and most recently, received a gold Honor Key for distinguished service to the field of education os a member of Kappa Delta PI. ■ His interests are many: traveling, bird classifying, fishing, following college athletics, playing handball, listening to classical music; but his major interest is and will continue to be the education and future happiness of Central ' s college students. ■ WE DEDICATE THIS BOOK TO YOU, DR.
