I- THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE This year of 1945-46 has been a reconversion period. It has been one in which we have been making a transition from war to peace. Former stu- dents who have been in the army and navy and who have traveled widely have been returning to the campus. Their return has been a joy. The numbers have increased as the year has worn on and traditional events are once more being enjoyed. By the autumn of 1946 Central should be operating quite normally. The Hyakem staff has dedicated this book to the veterans in apprecia- tion of their noble contribution to our cause in the war. I wish to add my word of appreciation and gratitude for their efforts in our behalf. May they now find happy places in society. We hope to expand the number of living quarters so as to accommodate all who wish to attend Central. We have al- ready acquired the Campus Courts, forty-eight family units from F. P. H. A. and several other houses. These enable married students to attend college, while we care for the usual single men and women. The most pleasant part of all is that we are bending all of our efforts towards constructive activity, The future offers many challenging opportuni- ties and the horizons look bright. 1 wish to join the Hyakem staff and the faculty in extending best wishes to all.
