The Hyakem is a volume which presents the students interpretation of the work and play activities of our institution for a year. It is a record of our college society. James Madison once said: A people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives. College life offers an opportunity to de- velop that power It presents a wholesome environment in which young men and women may develop well-balanced per¬ sonalities. They mature physically, emotionally, and intellec¬ tually. The horizons of their minds arc broadened. They learn to attack problems, to apply principles, to assemble facts, to think clearly, and to do the work of a profession. We hope that the seniors who are leaving us have ac quired much knowledge, a creative attitude of mind, and an enthusiasm which will carry them far. We wish them good fortune in the years ahead.
