Sophomores 7 . . 5 1 a 5 4336 'll I Xl ll' ' Y 'tgps I Vi? 5 Q55 ss. ig X22 Ll ' lll,.' 4 L SOPHOMORE HISTORY Sepfember 7, I943 was a new experience for us freshmen af Cenfral Vocafional High School, for fhere we mef new feachers, had new subiecfs and were infroduced fo more shops fhan we had ever lcnown before, We were new, and fhe seniors, iuniors and even fhe sophomores were envied by us. New friends were mef and old ones discovered. We liked fhe shops very much, buf found English, mafhemafics and science, required worlc af home in fhe evenings. Physical educafion under Coach Schmidf, also, was no picnic. Many a boy duck-walked under fhe rule of our physical direcfor. We had pep meefings and many of us wenf fo foofball games, buf our enfhusiasm was laclcing unfil we seffled down fo worlc fo see iusf how fhis new school operafed and whaf if had fo offer. There came fogefher in Sepfember, I944, again, from all parfs of fhe cify, a large group of boys, who had learned fhe preceding year fhe opporfunifies fhaf Cen- fral Vocafional High School had fo offer. We had one ambifion in our hearfs, namely, fo claim Cen'rral as our alma rnafer. We had a wide range of inferesfs. Many of us favored aviafion because we heard so many romanfic fales abouf if, buf some of us found we were beffer fiffed for ofher deparfmenfs. Welding was popular among many of us fellows. Ofher fields which we chose were aufomofive, sheef mefal, woodwork, elecfricify, machine shop, allied con- sfrucfion, aircraff engines and radio. Alfhough we did nof formally organize as a group fhis year, our class showed promise for fufure solidarify as we developed some leaders. Mosf of fhe boys will confinue fheir educafion, some will drop ouf, buf whafever we do, Cenfral will always sfand for fhe fraining if gave us for fhe indusfrial world.
