SENIOR CLASS HISTORY E are a small senior class-compared To The usual run oT CenTral's senior classes-Tor when CenTral was organized nearly Three years ago, due To The condiTions oT organizaTion There was no sophomore class. ConsequenTly, iT was noT expecTed aT ThaT Tirne ThaT any greaT senior class oT l945 should emerge. YeT There is a senior class oT 1945. NOT a greaT one in numbers perhaps-There are only TiTTy-seven oT us and some oT These already serving Their counTry-buT a class in which all of us have greaT TaiTh. The senior class of I9-45 is drawn Trom Two groups. ParT oT The class consisTs oT The boys who enTered CenTral as Treshmen in The Tall oT l942 when The newly Tormed CenTral VocaTional High School TirsT opened iTs doors and who have since Tollowed an acceleraTed program. These boys were under The dual sTrain oT organizaTion and The Task oT geTTing Their school work. Much oT The TirsT year was spenT in The equalizaTion of classes and The organizaTion and seTTing up oT our shops and classes. The remainder of The class is made up of boys who have come To CenTral during The pasT 2 or 3 years as sophomores or iuniors and who have had one or more years Training in anoTher high school. Many oT These boys experienced diTliculTy in becoming acclimaTed To The new seT-up. As The end oT The year approached, mosT boys leTT Tor Their vacaTions or jobs. buT There were some who sTayed Tor The summer session in order To graduaTe in Three years. ThaT summer was The mosT diTliculT one, because oT The shorTness oT The Time and because oT The heaT. ATTer geT- Ting Two crediTs Tor The summer's work, a Two week's vacaTion was allowed beTore The winTer session began. Since liTTle work was needed in organizaTion, during The second year, more Time was de- voTed To sTudies. MosT of The boys were well acquainTed wiTh The rouTine and we had earned our crediTs and were again sweaTing iT ouT in summer school beTore we realized iT. Beginning our lasT and senior year we saw a Tew new Taces from The academic high school added To The special class Tor seniors. We were deTermined To make The mosT of our lasT year in high school in spiTe of The TacT ThaT we shall undoubTedly be The smallesT senior class ever To be graduaTed Trom CenTral. Class organizaTion was insTiTuTed under The direcTion oT Mr. Wagner, who was appoinTed by Mr. Kuns To acT as senior advisor. An elecTion was held To choose class oTTicers Trom The candi- daTes chosen by The class. Then, The class planned a social calendar. ATTer much arbiTraTion, iT was agreed To give a dance aT CenTral. The daTe was seT Tor March 23. DecoraTions, reTreshmenTs, TickeTs and oTher problems presenTed many diTTiculTies, buT capable comrniTTees looked aTTer all The deTails, and everyThing was in readiness Tor The big nighT. ThirTy-nine couples and Twelve sTags aTTended The dance, chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. Miller. The music was provided by our own Duke Duffy and his orchesTra. The evening was one, long To be remembered. Plans are in progress Tor a Senior Prom and a picnic. AlTogeTher, we Teel our senior year has been a mosT happy one. Some oT us will graduaTe in June, buT many of us, who co-oped, will have To do addiTional work To geT The required crediTs, so we will noT graduaTe unTil Augusf. Al- Though all oT us are glad To Tinish our work, sTill we will always cherish in our hearTs a warm spoT Tor our Alma MaTer, CenTral VocaTional l-ligh School. JAMES DUGAN, l945. T191
