Rodeo Allen Gill and Louie Elwood finish big in rodeo. Allen Gill and Louie Elwood stood a good chance of making the finals at Quincy, California. In January, Allen Gill had finished 2nd in team roping and 1st in calf roping. Oth- er good prospects were Jerry Hill, Richard Blackford, and Dale Ellis. Jerry finished 5th, in bareback competing against 28 riders and 11th. in bull riding out of 40 rid- ers. Richard and Dale didn't make it into the standings but did very well for their very first year. District 431, comprised of 9 coun- ties, is the largest district in Cali- fornia. There are 9 rodeos: 3 in Redbluff, 1 each in Redding, Cot- tonwood, McArthur, and Monta- gue. After the 5th, rodeo, which was the Redding rodeo this year, the top three winners in each event went to the Grand National Junior Livestock Show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. After that the district hosts 4 more rodeos. When the 9th. rodeo was over, the 5 top point winners went to Quin- cy, the state final in California from which the top riders go to the nationals in June. To participate in a rodeo, you must pay 20 dollars to enter of which 10 dollars go to the pot, and 10 dollars to cover costs. The win- ners split the pot. Advisor, Vice Principal McMullen helped with fundraising ideas. The club tried to sponsor a dance but lost in compe- tition with other clubs, and prob- lems over insurance coverage. During homecoming, the Rodeo club wanted to put a mechanical bull in the gym. They also asked to host donkey basketball, both were refused because of possible injur- ies. 1. Any student body member can join. You may gain a lot of benefits from this club. You learn different cultures, meet new people, and see new places. Mr. Hayes and Ms. Tallerico are in charge of the club. They raised money by selling foreign candy and putting on a dance. The process of becoming an ex- change student is rather simple. After you decide where you would like to go, the AFS club tries to find a family to take care of you, and then you pay a sum of 397560. Unfortu- nately, this club is not very large. They encourage people to join AFS, who are really serious about becom- ing an exchange student. 1.
