Baseball Early Practice Makes For A Promising Season Baseball tryouts began on February 16th. They had been delayed due to heavy rains. The final team was chosen in early March. Only 5 seniors returned from last year and all 5 made the team. Coaches VanderVenter and McShane had a new fundraising idea for the play- ers. On March 28th both the varsity and the JV teams engaged in a 50 in- ning baseball game. The players went out and collected pledges for every in- ning of playg together they raised near- ly 54,000 With this money they pur- chased a 70 ft. batting cage for both teams to use. 1. Doc Cosgrove and other team mates warm up for practice. 2. Randy Taylor aims for a homerun. 3. Doc Cosgrove fires ball to his part- ner. 4. Golf Central Valley's Golf Team Practiced At Gold Hills. The golf team receives a budget from the school, from which they pay Gold Hills for the use of their golf course. Ron Howard, a Nova High School teacher, and the professionals at Gold Hills advise the team. fShasta and interprises play at Riverside Golf Course. Anderson practices at Tucker Golf Course, and Red Bluff golfs Wilcox Golf Course. There were 5 league match- es. Players practiced Mon- day and Tuesday, then, on Wednesday and Thursday the top 6 scores for matched up to practice for Fridays' league matches. Each team golfed in pairs. The best golfers from each team golf together, and 2nd best golfers pair up, etc. The team with the lowest score wins the match. At the end of the season, every team plays in the semifin- als. The top three teasm best 6 individuals go to the sectional finals, where they attempt to qualify for state. 1. Mike Zanola putts for a birdie. 2. Central Valley's golf team coach Ron Howard. 3.
