-C. ffl' q!'i Q rf-., - ,f J.V.'s Finished 2nd ln League To begin the 1980 cross-country sea- son, the Falcon runners traveled to An- derson on a stormy Thursday. The girls raced a tough Anderson squad on their own course and were defeated 54-15, while the J.V.'s faired a little better los- ing 21-35. The Varsity squad was crip- pled for they lost 4 of their top runners and were defeated by the N.A.L. cham- pion Cubs 42-19. Against Enterprise the Varsity team didn't do much better losing 39-17. The girls were clearly out-matched and lost 50-15. The only squad that won were the J.V.'s who won due to an Enterprise forfeit. The girls lost 44-17 at Shasta. The Varsi- ty was narrowly defeated 31-24. The J.V.'s won their second in a row with John Lowell, Darin Ahlbrecht, and Scott Gardener placing 1st through 3rd. The varsity team had their first victory against Red Bluff here at C.V. with a score of 20-35. The J.V.'s won again over Red Bluff 19-38 and over Nova 16- ...--- ' A'vM,4,...-f- F! The girls lost to Nova 47-16 and in their closest race of the season lost to Red Bluff 30-27. ln Yreka the girls lost 23-34 while the J.V.'s extended their winning record 21- 35. The varsity won their 2nd race of the season 26-30, At the N.A.L. the girls came out in last place while the varsity placed 5th. The J.V.'s finished 2nd in the league behind Anderson. The most valuable runner for the girls was Jeanie Roddick and the most inspi- rational runner was Sarah Rowley. Their coach, Mrs. Doniak, awarded Sherry Ferguson the most improved trophy. The J.V.'s had 2 most valuable runners, Darren Albrecht and John Lowell. The most improved for the J.V.'s was Scott Gardener. The most valuable runners for the varsity squad was Allen Simpson, the most inspirational was Tom Lowery, and the most improved was Donnie Fer- guson. ' -... 5 A 1 Q A . Cross Country 49
