Falcon Football Family Runs Wishbone Gffense Coach Korsen was enthusiastic about the season when 95070 of the players arrived for summer practices in good shape. The summer conditioning focused heavily on weight training. Coach Korsen decided to try something new this year with the hopes it would help build a stronger, more together team. He introduced the family idea and always wanted a few play- ers together on campus and off. Central Valley opened the sea- son with a home game against Las Plumas. They had a new offense called Triple Optionl' or Wishbone Offense , which has been used by other teams in the past. lt is simple to execute and keeps defense off balance. One reason Korsen decided to go to this is because they had trouble with defense in the past. C.V. destroyed Las Plumas 20- 0. Helping to make the winning game were Locke Palumbo and Allen Krigbaum, neither of whom had played football at C.V. before. Ken Redden, Bunk Schmidt, and Mark Hamilton also gave a lot of depth as running backs. The quarterback position was one position Korsen was wor- ried about, but he was pleasant- ly surprised when he had three quarter backs who were basical- ly equal in skill. Bob McMullen was the biggest running threat, while Juan Bernardino and Jim Bachelder were both strong passers. Doc Hall played line and also defensive end. Wide receiver was Kelly Heston, and Howard Norrington played cen- ter. Tackles were Tracy Boughn and John Schoelkopf. Greg Beaton played tight end and Venton Trotter played nose guard. Defensive tackles were Mike Corbell and Dan Goddard. Brian Howard and Dean John- ston were linebackers. The Falcons crushed Groville, 26-O. Locke Palumbo rushed for a total of 157 yards and scored on runs of 93 and 56 yards to lead. Palumbo's 93 yards was one of the longest run in school history. Mark Hamil- ton then pulled in a pass by Bob McMullen and scrambled 60 yards for a touchdown. C.V. in- tercepted one Oroville pass and recovered a fumble. Randy Ro- driquez made the final touch- down. .1 fa . .mx -,A f,t..H 1. ,A QW-. ' Q ur-- -..g- - -1-. '
