Q Seniors Took Honors Don Spini received the DAR lDaughters of American Revolu- tionl good citizenship award. Don was the first boy to ever win since boys were made eligible six years ago. The Senior class chooses a student who they feel exhibits outstanding leadership, dependability and pa- triotism. Don claimed, 'AI feel very honored that my class chose me and it's the best award I ever won because it was awarded to me by people l personally know. He felt being the Student Body President helped tremendously in winning the award. Three weeks before he won the DAR Award, a Rotary Club Youth Award for leadership was also pre- 1. Those included in the Physics Class Bridge Building Contest: lTop Rowl Chris sented to Don. After graduation, Don plans to go to Hayward College for a year then transfer to Berkeley majoring in Law. Doc Hall was the only athlete at C.V. to make NAL in football. He was all-league defensive end and also honorable mention at offen- sive guard. The NAL awards are chosen by the coaches from all the schools in the league. Usually about 22 people are chosen. Doc had been playing football for 7 yrs. and was 1 of 3 captains on the football team. He feels that what it takes to make NAL is that you've got to be aggressive and want to play football. PROJECT SMASH! The Annual bridge building contest oc- curred on December 15. Brett Mary- mee had the strongest bridge that held 93 lbs. The weakest was 4 lbs. built by Greg Ramsey. Mr. Ashcraft's physics class took part in the bridge building contest. Each stu- dent was given 3O ft. of 3f32 inch balsa wood, one tube of testors glue, a com- plete list of rules, and two weeks in which to complete their bridge. Every student had to draw their own plans and do all the work at home. The smash has been going on for the last eight years. Six years ago Mr. Don- iak built a bridge that held 222 lbs. Since then Mr. Ashcraft has disqualified Mr. Doniak and his design from the contest. Project Smash helps the students find the strongest possible structure and at the same time have a lot of fun, exclaimed Mr. Ashcraft. ., it .. ,, fi
