Gothic Settings Once upon a midnight dreary, October 29,30,31, while I pondered weak and weary, trying to decide whether I should go through the Music Dept. Haunted House Door, I strained my mind then hesitantly stepped through into the mys- terious haunted house created by the Swing Choir, Concert Band, and Jazz Band, that had over 700 people before me gone, earning in excess of 513700.00 for the music dept. Ah, distinctly I remember it was in bleak October, as each star wrought its ghost upon the floor. Eagerly I wished the morrow as I saw the vampires, spiders, ghouls, and freaks jumping out at me from the darkness. As I walked in, pres- ently my soul grew stronger, hesitating then no longer I walked through into the waiting room, where I saw maids killing and dicing up the people that had not quite made their journey! I went on into a bedroom with a spider ready to pounce on her victim below. Through the tunnel I went crawling as I saw vam- pires, frankenstein monsters, ghouls and goblins and things grabbing me from the darkness. Back into the chamber turn- ing, my soul within me burning, I ran out into the darkness and then was heard from Nevermorel Featured were Freaks and Phase Four. These movies were presented by the student council for around 35400.00 which became a loss when only about 60-70 people out of around 930 stu- dents showed up. Some reasons that the student council and Mr. Bergstrom think the movies bombed was because either the stu- dent body populace lives too far from C.V. or we haven't featured smash hit movies. Mr. Bergstrom commented, I think we should try again with a movie that all the student body would be inter- ested inf' Harry Knudsen, student coun- cil member, commented, The movies weren't as good as they could have been due to the absence of Phantom of Para- dise, and the privilege of popcorn fights was taken away. Don Spini, another student council member, said that more people would have come if Phantom of Paradise wasnlt stopped from being shown, and the reason why it wasn't shown he said, was because some peo- ple felt the student populace shouldn't be exposed to drugs, or swearing, or sex that they are exposed to every day. One of the people that attended the movie, Jeanie Rodick, said, The movie Freaks was pretty good but I felt sorry for the freaks in the movie, and Phase Four was ok but some of its potential for a good horror film was missing. 22 Student Activities it W .Q J ,fi
