I-I stages leave ran The Associated Press A plane carrying the 52 Ameri- can hostages, freedom-bound af- ter 444 days of captivity in Iran, took off today from Tehran's Mehrabad Airport, the official Iranian news agency Pars report- ed. They are airborne, President Reagan said about an hour after he succeeded Jimmy Carter as president. He said it would take about an hour's flying time for the plane carrying the hostages to clear Iranian air space, and that's when you really feel safe. Pars said the hostages depart- ed aboard an Algerian 727 jetlin- er at 12:33 p.m. EST, following the noon eclipse of Carter's presi- dency. In his inaugural address, which concluded at 12:20 p.m., Reagan did not mention the hostages. Carter, who shared the podium with his successor, was similarly silent.
