The Engllsh Department Revised The Program In addition to regular teaching assignments the new department chairperson Dee Tollefson Ms Hughes Ms Ormond and Mrs Kerley volunteered to amend the English curriculum The first major goal was to update course guide lmes and create a new junior program to merge American Literature with current elec- tive programs to cut down on scheduling prob- lems caused by semester programing and to give students a knowledge of their National lit- erature. A second goal was to update course objectives to make them more specific for new and transfer teachers. The department also started a series of district- wide seminars of interested teachers to share ideas and learn new material and techniques. The activities included in the English Depart- ment are yearbook, newspaper, plays, training of speech candidates, and preparation of a cre- ative writing anthology. l n I 1 M
