A Family Affair Put on by the PTSA, CParent, Teach- er, Student Associationl the Ham Dinner is an annual event. It is most- ly a fund raiser and a good one at that. A good turnout this year made it a success. There were smiles all a- round, and old friends visiting and socializing. New friendships were made, too. The Ham Dinner is a Central Valley tradition and a nice evening out for the family. Top Left: Mr. Hafner talks over the big turn out of the Ham dinner and the Amends relax and finish up their meal. Top middle: All American pork out. Top right: Sooey, sooey! Bottom left: Mr. Connell and son. Bottom middle: Mothers and teachers hard at work preparing, serving, and cleaning. Bottom right: The only person who volunteer- ed for clean-up duty. 22

It's Hard to be Humble When you re perfect in every way. I can 't wait to look in the mirron 'Cuz I get better looking each day. Imust be Q heck ofa man. It's hand to be humble... This song seems to have been Mr. Hafner's theme song for the Year of the Bear. It epitomizes the pride and confif dence he had in the student body - its scholastic, athletic, musical and artistic talents. Chuck Hafner's first year as principal at Central Valley High School was per- fect in every way. He worked closely and enthusiastically with the students and faculty to build fresh ideas, positive attitudes, and 'pride and class.' Mr. Hafner made it obvious he enjoyed coming to school and perform- ing his duties with the able assistance of Kathy Irwin and Anton Rasmussen... I'm doing the best that I can. 24
