Fads are as big a part of high school as Friday night dances and pep assemblies. This year fashion is as big and wide spread as ever. Al- though Spokane is a little behind when it comes to fashion, kids have kept up with New York fashion jeans and California Hawaiian shirts. Pants have changed from straight legged and painter to pleated and baggy. Pastel colored sweaters a- long with blouses were popular with an assortment of lace collars. Any girl could dress up her outfit with a variety of pins like rainbows, Miss Piggy, or Crayola crayons. Pierced earrings went from gold and silver to bright pink and purple and some girls had their ears pierc- ed twice or even more. Hairstyles were wide spread and girls were wearing combs, braids, and pony tails and the boys were even spend- ing time on their feathered short hair. Popular cowboy fashions appeal- ed to everyone at CV and it gave the boys a chance to be fashionable, too. Other trends of the time were buying used army pants and bowling shirts at Value Village and even European punk rock took its toll. In the music world, there was ACXDC, Cheap Trick, Earth, Wind and Fire, Brothers Johnson, Com- modores, Donna Summer, Michael lackson, Devo, B-52's, and Frank Zappa. 7f 1980-81 was definitely a year of many fads and fashions and we will look back at them and laugh like we do at our parents' bobbie socks, leather jackets, and ducktails. UPPER MIDDLE: Sandy Morris wears her bright printed skirt and high heels, popular spring and summer fashions. LOWER MIDDLE: Cowboy apparel is appeal- ing to even the guys. MIDDLE RIGHT: Collars no longer have to be attached like this lace pin-on collar. The sweater is decorated with a variety of pins. BOTTOM RIGHT: Sus- penders are back along with Hawaiian shirts and baggy pants. Even guys, like Terry Ota, get into male fashion.
