As frosh they were definitely defeated in their first major battle-initiation by the sophomores. With few casualties they continued on their way, being re- sponsible for the successful burning of the Eagle, and also being the first class to reach their annual quota. The following fall they captured the freshmen and put them through tortures similar to theirs the previous year. However, their good will was re- gained and the Frosh were honored at a party given in their favor by the sophomores. The participation in sports and school activities by the sophomores continued, as members of the class of 1951 became vital cogs in Central Valley's wheel of fortune. The next year saw them sailing smoother than ever. They accomplished the greatest aim of all to put on a successful Junior Prom. praise from all who attended My and their Marjie Fintel was crowned Five Officers of the student body were selected from their class in the forms of Jim Upchurch, President, Joyce Beck, Secretary, Pat Smith, Reporter, Chuck Pope, Parliamentariang and Gretchen Hahn, Program Chairman. junior classes- They gained Blue Heavenf' Prom Queen. Tremurer Their fourth and final year at sea was crowned by one of the most successful Senior Balls in many years. Under the able direction of class president Joann Gibson, the shore leave at Christmas Island left a memory never to be forgotten, Jim Upchurch and Mariane Halverson reigned over the event. Chosen to assist the president were: Vivian Faulkes, Vice President, Shirley McDonald, Secretary, and Don Mclntosh, Treasurer. Aiding in every way were class advisors Gertrude Glover, Marcella Smith, Sig Hansen, and Charlie McCarthey. Gretchen Hahn, Marjie Fintel, Pat Smith, Jim Upchurch, Don Barden, LaMoine Howell, Ernest Craft, and Ted Williams were elected to Pep Club while Jackie Spalding, Aileen Hitchcock, Lyle Abbott, and La- Moine Howell represented the senior class in student council. Seniors became the bulwark of Central Valley athletic teams, with Big Jim Robertson gaining a berth on the all-state football team. Pat Smith took over the job of annual editor with Mary Catherine Allen as assistant and Lyle Abbott as business manager. Seniors reigned as kings and queens of many events. The course of the class of 1951 has been steered clear and true and they will ever remember the years spent on the U.S.S. Central Valley.
