How did it seem not to have the freshmen there to take the blame for noise, torn paper, disarranged chairs and etc.? You have also had a peep around the corner of the turn of the half century. We must all admit that world conditions are doubtful and full of question marks. You probably are beginning to understand the meaning of the words dynamic, challenging and sacri- fice. Central Valley will miss the class of 1951 and look for news of you. Please call on any of us, if we can later be of service to you. JOHN J. CRABB Superintendent FIRST MATE George J. Langston SENIOR CLASS: I feel confident that the contributions which you make to society will be a credit to the school for which you have shown so much loyalty. If the future of a troubled world depends on the enthusiasm and resourcefulness of the youth of today, this graduating class will certainly be a force towards shaping ar better future. GEORGE J. As frosh they were definitely defeated in their first major battle-initiation by the sophomores. With few casualties they continued on their way, being re- sponsible for the successful burning of the Eagle, and also being the first class to reach their annual quota. The following fall they captured the freshmen and put them through tortures similar to theirs the previous year. However, their good will was re- gained and the Frosh were honored at a party given in their favor by the sophomores. The participation in sports and school activities by the sophomores continued, as members of the class of 1951 became vital cogs in Central Valley's wheel of fortune. The next year saw them sailing smoother than ever. They accomplished the greatest aim of all to put on a successful Junior Prom. praise from all who attended My and their Marjie Fintel was crowned Five Officers of the student body were selected from their class in the forms of Jim Upchurch, President, Joyce Beck, Secretary, Pat Smith, Reporter, Chuck Pope, Parliamentariang and Gretchen Hahn, Program Chairman. junior classes- They gained Blue Heavenf' Prom Queen. Joann Gibson ..........,..,..........................,... Pferident Vivian Faulkes ....... ..... V ire Prerident Shirley McDonald ..., ........,... S en-emry Don Mclntosh ...... Tremurer Their fourth and final year at sea was crowned by one of the most successful Senior Balls in many years. Under the able direction of class president Joann Gibson, the shore leave at Christmas Island left a memory never to be forgotten, Jim Upchurch and Mariane Halverson reigned over the event. Chosen to assist the president were: Vivian Faulkes, Vice President, Shirley McDonald, Secretary, and Don Mclntosh, Treasurer. Aiding in every way were class advisors Gertrude Glover, Marcella Smith, Sig Hansen, and Charlie McCarthey. Gretchen Hahn, Marjie Fintel, Pat Smith, Jim Upchurch, Don Barden, LaMoine Howell, Ernest Craft, and Ted Williams were elected to Pep Club while Jackie Spalding, Aileen Hitchcock, Lyle Abbott, and La- Moine Howell represented the senior class in student council. Seniors became the bulwark of Central Valley athletic teams, with Big Jim Robertson gaining a berth on the all-state football team. Pat Smith took over the job of annual editor with Mary Catherine Allen as assistant and Lyle Abbott as business manager. Seniors reigned as kings and queens of many events. The course of the class of 1951 has been steered clear and true and they will ever remember the years spent on the U.S.S. Central Valley. MARY CATHERINE ALLEN Ain't We Got Fun Major:-Language . . . P resident joan Hackney ....... .......... S erretary Swinging aloft into their new career, the class of 1952 began as meek frosh. They fully and hardily survived the initiation offered by the sophomores and had a good time doing it. They did a fine job of burning the Eagle, keeping the W.V. intruders from getting their hands on it. They began their sophomore year with a little more confidence, and immediately proclaimed war on the frosh. A truce was declared, however, at the Freshman-Sopho- more party. Class members began to take their stations in literary, pep, dramatic, musical, and athletic groups. Barbara Kellmer was chosen Gingham Gal at the Gallop. George Whitman was elected Vice President of the student body, an honor seldom conferred upon a sophomore. The third year on the high seas for the class was full of excitement, especially the election of Roy Shaw, President, Robert Fujimura, Vice President, Joan Hackney, Secretary, Barbara Ziegler, Reporter, Marceline Pope, Program Chairman, and Merlyn Smith, Parliamentarian as student body officers, and the planning and outcome of the junior Prom. In charge of class affairs were: Merlyn Smith, President, jim Spencer, Vice President, joan Hackney, Secretary, and Marilyn Torrey, Treasurer. Lorraine Reiff, Deilia Whitman, Carroll Orcutt, and Del Muse were the ever-present and help- ful advisors. Lois McCulley, joan Hackney, Al Stipe, and Roy Shaw were selected for Pep Club. janet Smith was chosen as junior editor of the annual. Affairs of the Girls' League were left in the capable hands of Marilyn Torrey, President, Lois McCu1ley, Vice President, Louise Robinson, Secretary, and Beverly Nelson, Treasurer. Many juniors made their football letters, while Eli Chalich and George Whitman sparked Ray Thacker's basketball team. Louise Robinson, Bev Orwiler, Bev Voltz, Darwin Marcus, and Jerry Drinkard represented the class in student council. The Class looked forward into their final year with anticipation and the hope that they will leave as fine an imprint on Central Valley as they have the previous three years. I! V ice Prerident The sophomores were welcomed into Central Valley by the class of 1952 but they weathered the storm of gunny-sacks, lipstick, and clothespins with flying colors. They went on to come in second in a ticket contest. Many members of the class took part in extra curricular activities and athletics. Fred Medlen showed signs of becoming one of the few four-year lettermen at Central Valley by winning his letter in track. The class continued to carry their banner high during the second year as they were the second class to reach their annual quota and they Sponsored several successful dances. However, they were again treated as the green class because the newly opened Central Valley junior High took all incoming Freshmen, they again endured setting up benches for assembly and the daily raising of the flag. Class members were active in Torch and Quill, Bearettes, Thespians, and Debate. Janice Hackney, and Fred Medlen became members of Pep Club. Jim Woods, Don Hjort, Lyle Tucker. and Fred Medlen won football letters. Russell Melton, Fred Medlen, and Howarc Syria received their awards in basketball. Betty Jane Neyland, Alice Leslie, Stan Neil son, and Alan Marshall were elected to student council by the Sophomores. Directed by officers, Don Hjort, Presidentg Alan Marshall, Vice President, and Janice Hackney, Secretary-Treasurerg and assisted by advisors Priscilla Ross, Florence Orcutt, Ernest McKie, and Ray Thacker, the class became one of the most active and spirited in many years at Central Valley. From a choice of one hun- dred fellow seniors, they were nominated and elected-not by a small prejudiced com- mittee, but by a large group of different indi- viduals who firmly be- lieve, for their own personal reasons, that Mary Catherine and johnny are most likely to succeed. The 1950 team consisted of ten seniors, one junior and one sophomore. Throughout the season the Bears were alternately fast and slow. They probably played their best in the Wenatchee game, an 18-12 loss, and in the West Valley game, a 6-6 tie. The West Valley game was the third consecutive year that the valley rivals' tilt ended in a draw. Backfield stars were Len Pederson, sharp-shooting fullback, Chuck Pederson, greased lightning at right half g Bob Beyers, broken arm casualty of Kalispell gameg George Whitman, fireball until he broke his leg in the Sandpoint game. Ron Medlen stepped in when Beyers got hurt and kept going strong. Dick Klavano started the year playing linesman but later switched to quarterback. The line played good ball all season with jim Robertson, who was chosen to play All- State, Chuck Pope, jim Upchurch, Marvin Schmitt and Bill Miller. CV's B Squad had a mediocre season in their own separate league while preparing themselves for next year. 011 U16 xQ5l 1'-YXX Gridimu ,JN if 1 1691 kc If ll 60 alles 0 ' 'o O U 4 11,5 U' e :M Coaches Ray Thacker and Ernest McKie are two good reasons why Central Valley High School rates among the best in Washington when it comes to basketball.
