Board Seeks Balance of Dollars And Desire The demanding task of providing the broad, com- prehensive educational program that the com- munity and the students want within the means of the taxpayers to finance is the responsibility of the school's Board of Trustees and its ad- ministrators. Continuing pupil growth, rising costs, state laws, and regulations of the state department of education are a few of the factors that keep adding to the job's complexity. Along with the approval and supervision of a cur- rent operating budget of S1,865,145, this board plans for the realization of the schooI's master plan. The current 8835500 building program added an art room, two special education rooms, and nine others. A total of fourteen teaching sta- tions will be made available. Although addi- tional voter-approved financing will be required to finish the master plan, the board's policy is to complete as much as possible. ln addition to responsiveness to community feelings in exercising its responsibilities, the board relies on the total school staff for guid- ance in policy making. Curriculum is largely the result of course plans developed by the teach- ing staff and administrators and approved by the board. Another innovation in complete communi- cation took place this year when the trustees invited the school's student representatives, the Board of Commissioners, to attend their October meeting. A meaningful question and answer ses- sion took place. H. Hutchens, Trustee Dr. Warren Lavezo, and trustee Winifred Dessert. Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Carl Moore not shown.
